1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Dyeing a Duvet Cover on: September 12, 2010 03:22:08 PM
So, my duvet cover is super old, and like any good crafter/college student, I've decided that it will be less expensive (and more fun) for me to make my own than to buy one. I found a duvet pattern that I really love:

And now, I'm hoping you all lovely people will help me brainstorm a way to get a similar pattern using some combination of fabric dyeing, screen printing, batik, bleach dyeing, and any other techniques I haven't mentioned or heard of. I've done a fair amount of yarn dyeing and screen printing using freezer paper, and I'm always excited to try new things.

Thanks for your help!
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Good Recipe for Peanut Sauce? on: May 23, 2010 02:29:18 PM
I love peanut sauce. A local Thai restaurant makes peanut sauce so good that if I could, I would marry it and we would have little peanut sauce/human babies. That said, I've never been able to find a peanut sauce recipe or a peanut sauce in a bottle that lives up to my expectations.

Have any of you had luck making super delicious peanut sauce? What's the trick to getting it so creamy and making the peanut taste not completely overwhelming?

Thanks!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Penelope's Coat on: May 20, 2010 11:58:36 AM
I recently saw The Brothers Bloom, and I just loved it. Rachel Weisz's character Penelope was my adorable, and her clothes were fabulous. My favorite outfit of hers was a leopard print coat that she wore about half way through the movie.

Does anyone know of a pattern that closely resembles this jacket? I would love to make a copy of it.

Thank you!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern Drafting 101 on: May 05, 2010 01:45:50 PM
I've been sewing for a few years now, and I'd love to start drafting my own patterns so as to get a perfect fit. What materials are going to be most helpful? What's the best type of paper to use? Do I actually need a French Curve?

Thank you for your patience. I'm really excited to make a dress that fits me right!

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Bubble Skirt Hankering on: October 09, 2008 07:58:49 PM
So, I've desperate need for a bubble skirt. But I have no idea how to go about making one. I've sworn not use patterns this year, so any advice on the appropriate pattern shape, or a tutorial, would be very much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Covering a bra? on: March 30, 2008 07:10:28 PM
My friend wants help covering one of her bras in some really cool fabric she found. Does anyone have tips? I'm thinking we'll cut the fabric out with a little room on each edge, fold it over the bra, and slip stitch it. Does this seem reasonable?
Thank you!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Pattern Drafting Book on: March 02, 2008 12:14:47 AM
I'm looking for a book that I could reference when I'm drafting patterns. I saw one nice looking one online, but it's way too expensive for a starving college student. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Wannabe Schoolgirl Dress on: January 22, 2008 06:14:59 PM
My version of burdastyle's "Zoe" dress:
http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/17
somehow ended up looking like something a Catholic schoolgirl would wear. I think I mean that in a good way.

Excuse the blurry pictures... I let my younger sister take them.

In case it isn't clear in the photos, it's a cream/brown plaid fabric with hunter green. I really pleased with how it turned out.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Collar Help on: January 15, 2008 04:07:45 PM
My little sister wants me to make her a shirt, and I'm more than happy to oblige. Unfortunately, she's requested it have a collar... something along these lines:

.

Sadly, I haven't the slightest how to draft the thing. What basic shape do I need? Any recommendations on how to go about this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Strawberry Hat on: June 11, 2007 11:18:41 AM
So, I have this friend who really wants a strawberry hat. Like this:

The thing is, I can't find a pattern that isn't for tiny children. If you happen to know a pattern, or have any ideas where I could find one, I will give you lots of spiritual points and a gold star.
