51  Owl necklace and Tree Necklace... First handmade jewelry in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by shayneblate08 on: June 07, 2009 03:46:08 AM
So I just got these supplies from Michaels, brainstorming what would look good and what pendants appealed to me and whipped these two necklaces up. I love them!

52  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by shayneblate08 on: November 18, 2007 01:32:47 PM

fauxhawk i know, then i cut it into a real hawk.

manic panic ultraviolet, its a mohawk, yes, but its all combed down here.

faded purple. this is how it looks now, but i'm waiting till the end of christmas break to do it again, because christmas break is a month away and a month long, and it will just die again in two months. at the end of christmas break im going to bleach it, then dye it with manic panic shocking blue and ultraviolet.
my style is self cut. its shaved on the sides (its grown back a tiny bit) and on ONE side I have a hot pink lock just above my hair that I'm growing out. I call it my tail. i usually spike my hair in public but if i don't i wear a hat or a bandanna:

i'm not allowed to shave my head again till after i go to my grandmas house for christmas, but oh well, i won't see my friends again till mid january.
not pictured, but i've had black, bright red, bright green, dark blue, brown, bleach blonde, strawberry blonde, and hot pink before this. i've found that purple looks best on me.
when freshly dyed it looks unbelievable in the sun.
heres two pics of what it looked like when it was strawberry blonde. i had pink highlights and dyed black hair, and this is what happened with an hour of bleach. i waited about 2 weeks before i got bored and dyed it again, lol:

54  3 cute pants-to-skirt recons [img heavy] in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shayneblate08 on: July 17, 2007 08:19:02 AM
well, I guess I've decided to start wearing skirts, as long as they're not too girly.

I just got a new job working in IT at the school I go to and the dress code is strict.
I had this pair of pants that went with my white pinstripe blazer that I decorated (in my earlier topics, I think) but they were too small, I couldn't button the button, and white looks terrible when its clinging to my legs. white and cellulite don't mix. so I cut it up to the knees, and then sewed it like a regular pants-to-skirt, but it was still too small. So I cut two 2-inch strips off of one of the legs I lopped off. the pants had thick cuffs at the bottom so I turned the strip upside down and cut all the way through each side of my skirt. then I sewed down each side of each strip so that the thick part of the cuff matched up to the thickness of my waistband.
this one took a lot of work.
its got buttons on the inside (not shown) where I can hike it up and make it a mini, but then let it down to a little past my knee. in these pics its hiked up.
also, my camera made it look stained, and its not. really.
It does need to be ironed though. its wrinkles are making the hem look unfinished, but the hem is finished with heat-appliqu hem tape (steam-a-seam).
so thats about all I can tell you about it. completely hand sewn.

the next skirt was a plaid mens pair of shorts that I got at a teen consignment store for $12. not bad, because they weren't golf pants. they were the length and fit of board shorts, and they had intentional rreinforced freying at the bottom.
but it was TOTALLY unflattering.
so I made it a skirt.
yay me.
it was fairly easy. hand sewn.

The last skirt was a pair of junior girls capri pajama pants. the length you see here is the length of the original pants, so they did the bottom hem for me.
they're extremely soft and comfy, but I wanted it to be something I could wear outside.
Easiest Recon EVER:
1. cut up inside hemlines of capri happy bunny pj pants
2. cut out fabric in crotchy area
3. sew together in back and front
4. cut slits in sides
5. enjoy
It's really really nice when all I have to do is sew and not think about proportions. these already fit me perfectly, but I wanted a skirt!
sorry for the crap photo, I have a crap camera and I am a crap model, ergo the crap photo.

thanks for looking

55  Fabric I don't know what to do with in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by shayneblate08 on: July 12, 2007 02:38:56 PM
Sorry if this is in the wrong place

but my mom just found this fabric at a garage sale that she thought I'd love. it was about 10 cents and I've already laundered it.
It looks woven but I can't tell. its obviously from a place like JoAnns or Walmart fabrics because of the back and the texture and material. polyester I think. Anyway, I know I have exactly two yards and its this cute fabric that says Surfs Up.
Heres a couple pics, actually

I'm not great at making clothes from scratch, and I don't have a sewing machine...
what can I do with it?

56  Bathing suit perfect for those self concious in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shayneblate08 on: July 04, 2007 11:23:39 AM
So my thighs are gross so I bought a pair of really cool onsale mens trunks at walmart. except waaaaay too big. Resizing done with small stitches that literally took hours. I had to go over them again and again because it has to move with me in the water, and I sew by hand only.

Then I bought this halter one piece, which I'll just wear the shorts on top of.
The halter was so low cut and the cups were not just enormous they were very wide and broad, and the suit was obviously made for a big-breasted woman. I am not tiny but not that big.
ANYWAY. I took this stretchy material and soaked it in water and it seemed to do okay so I dried it and cut out a triangle of it as sort of a modesty panel, if you will, its the camo material. I sewed it on the inside.
the cups I put a slice in and took out most of the padding in there and  put in a cup on each side of a bra I'd thrown away because the straps were broken beyond repair. they were actually lying ontop of my trash, and its really just papers and stuff. so I slid it in there and positioned it correctly and sewed it back up. fits MUCH better now.
I love the halter neck.

57  Tough skull shortsleeved hoodie in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shayneblate08 on: July 04, 2007 02:40:23 AM
Didn't want to ruin the graphic so I put the zipper on the side.
There's a red lace X on the arm
There's a hood too and bottom lining from the sweater because otherwise it would have been much too short.

58  scarf to top and pants to wider pants in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shayneblate08 on: July 04, 2007 02:37:59 AM
So this top was made from a scarf my mom gave me and a brown knit tank my grandma gave me. No before pics.
The white ties are scraps I had left over
I made a little wrist tie to go with the top

And then these are just cute brown velvet (velveteen but they feel like velvet) pants with plaid inserts from an old shirt I had. Very wide leg--if you know tripp pants, these are wider. My mom says I remind her of her hippie days when I wear them. reminds me of the days when she put flowers in my hair. ICK.

I would wear this as an outfit, I think.

59  two tee recons in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by shayneblate08 on: July 04, 2007 01:33:44 AM
not amazing enough to have their own separate topics, but I like them.

Sorry sometimes I get to exited or stupid to take a before pic.
sorry for graininess, horrible picture ness, and ugliness as I do all my stuff in the early am when everyone is wasting their lives sleeping.
none of the spots or anything on the pics is on the actual clothing-just my crappy camera.

EVERYTHING is hand-sewn.

Green Day shirt.
Has a back belt (meaning it starts at the sides (my ribs) and goes around the back to make the shirt look fitted around my waist), and straps that are taken from the waist band of green day boxers that were too big in the front, if you know what I mean.
There are two containers on the shirt. one says Lazy which is a can of pop and the other what looks like a jar says sunday and then there is lettering so the whole thing basically says Lazy + Sunday = Crazy Delicious. got it for my birthday from hottopic.com back in '05. Used to fit but have lost 50 pounds since then.  (loss gain loss gain stuff)
anyway... on to the pics!

The Vikings
To celebrate my recent move from Minnesota to Illinois I decided to make my lame vikings shirt into something I might wear. I did make it a lot smaller, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I may do more later, but I spent about 3 hours on it (I have to handsew everything) along with sewing some buttons off a shirt from earlier and using the thick seams near the collar of the shirt to hold up the off the shoulder look because I have narrow shoulders.
so yes.
I love the yellow and blue down the side.

60  chinese character painting in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by shayneblate08 on: June 30, 2007 01:36:50 AM
Part of my wall mural, this is above my bed.

It means dream which is why it says it in english above the character.

I used waterbased acrylic pearlized gold paint with a spongy brush to make it have the spongy effect. I freehanded the character in light mechanical pencil, then painted it in bright red acrylic waterbased paint then outlined it in some leftover Flat Matte finish interior black paint.
