1  Girl's Athena Goddess Of Wisdom & War Costume based on Barbie Doll (img hvy) in Halloween Costumes by abelletobehold on: July 16, 2011 09:46:16 AM
My lovely Daughters always keep me n my toes with crafty stuff they never ask for say a Ghost Costume or something simple they always go extravagant last year was Marie Antoinette / Cinderella from the movie Ever After/ And Scarlett O' Hara. This year my eldest wanted to be Athena Goddess Of Wisdom & War based on the collector barbie released last year (I will post a pic) Definitely not a traditional Greek Goddess by any means. But I admit I love that they want unique & one of a kind costumes.

3  My Best Diaper Cakes yet (yes I said cakes :) in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by abelletobehold on: July 15, 2011 10:34:24 PM
So whats super ironic is I posted one of my other diaper cakes on craftster a few years back, why is this ironic you say well that cake was made for the same sister I made these for only her style has changed drastically granted she is having her first girl Cheesy so that may have something to do with it but n e ways Theses are my favorite cakes yet I have made 7 :O lol But these are by far my best after seven I have got this down to a science lol I used only one regular package of size 2 target diapers (my sister's fave) to make all 3 cakes.

Supplies:
- 1 pack size 2 diapers(everyone gets size 1 or NB but mom always waits a month or two before accepting that she has to take it apart eventually and that seems to always be about size 2 time Wink

- 1 roll of tape my fave is the cheapest shiny scotch type tape at Walmart it just holds onto the diapers better

- lots of fab decor ribbons & bows Smiley

Here's a breakdown of what I decorated mine with starting from the left to the right

cake a- on my up-cycled dessert plates (see thread)
Martha Stewart ribbon tape (Michaels clearance $2)
bronze sheer ribbon (hobby lobby $2 for a roll)
tiny cotton lace ribbon (hobby lobby $2 a roll)
green ribbon roses trim (hobby lobby $6 a yard eeek I used coupon and got 40% off always print the website coupons)
Ivory tulle ($1.50 for 25feet roll)
paper blooms ($1.60 clearance hobby lobby)
Topper  (Michaels its like a blue ribbon they have a huge selection but they are on clearance and moving fast $2 each)

Cake B- on vintage cake stand
brown sheer ribbon (hobby Lobby $2 roll)
sheer gold ribbon (hobby lobby $2 roll)

4  Up-cycled Vintage Souvenir plates as fab party trays :) super cheap & easy in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by abelletobehold on: July 15, 2011 10:04:40 PM
SO I am uber cheap, super crafty and I love the unusual so I thought of this idea which I most likely saw
somewhere else possibly craftster lol so I won't take credit for it being an original idea but I am proud of them just the same they took like 2 minutes to make and a day to dry, and a whopping $2 EACH to make I purchased plates & candlesticks at Goodwill for $1 each and the glue I already had but purchased at Hobby Lobby. Everyone at my sister's baby shower adored them I can't wait to use them again Smiley

Supplies:
E6000 glue
any cute glass plate
a candlestick holder with a bit of a rim around the top

Step 1: Remove nasty Goodwill tags and clean and dry plates & candlestick holders

Step 2: apply E6000 glue to rim of candlestick

Step 3: center candlestick on bottom of plate

Step 4: allow glue to set for 30 minutes before moving

Step 5: flip so candlestick balances plate and allow glue to finish setting for 24 hours

If you look closely you can see the plates on both sides of the table

My Diaper cakes Smiley The two small cakes are placed on plates I made using saucers missing teacups

5  Rockstar themed diaper cake & chinese takeout favor boxes in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by abelletobehold on: August 18, 2010 01:10:57 PM
I made this diaper cake for my baby sister's (ok shes 23 but she'll always be my baby sis) baby shower for her second child. She is not your typical gal and is into death metal etc so I decided she needed an edgier theme for her baby shower the Theme was Rockstar Baby I used black satin ribbon with a black and white grosgrain ribbon accent the center of eachbow has a little metal skull with red gemstone eyes and the top is accented with a large black chiffon flower i made with a clip so when the shower was over she could wear it in her hair she loved it.
The boxes were made from a chinese takeout box diecut using the cutest black cardstock with foil guitars, i used silver roping for the handle and added a blue crystal baby bottle bead for a bit of color.

6  My Tween Girl Mad Hatter Costume in Costumes: Completed Projects by abelletobehold on: August 18, 2010 03:32:23 AM
While I have sewn a few things in the past (a few pillows etc.) this is the first project I have made from scratch no pattern and no rules it came straight from my noggin and I am pretty proud of how it turned out Smiley So here's the story. My younger daughter loves Alice In Wonderland (the book) so when we saw a trailer for the new movie she knew she wanted to have an Unbirthday Tea Party/ movie screening even though the movie was to come out in March and her birthday was in October she waited 6 long months to have her first friends birthday party with her Kindergarten class. And with that I decided to make costumes for her & her older sister. My fave was my eldest daughter's Mad Hatter Costume. I made the skirt by cutting strips from 4 different fabrics then using all kinds of crazy stitches I sewed them together I was very casual about the stitching as I wanted a rough look to it then I used elastic to gather the fabric I had made of the strips I left the edges rough for a crazy look then using a flannel backed snakeskin type fabric I constructed a bustier top using her as my mannequin (poor girl lol) then I constructed a belt using flannel backed rubber like checker fabric I sewed really funky buttons on the side this was primarily to cover the gap between the skirt and the bustier.  For the hat I used a disposable plastic cup as a pattern for the hat itself the base I traced the rim of the same cup and I adore the result it was the perfect size for the steampunk style I was going for I then cut the pattern from sticky backed felt which I then adhered the same rubbery check fabric I used for the belt I used a scrap piece of fabric left from the skirt for the green band I used hotglue to construct the hat and slipped in a peacock feather and a stick pin in the side for added drama.

For reference:
- All Fabric, felt, lace & the feather were purchased at Hobby Lobby
- Leggings were purchased at Target
- Jacket was purchased at DKNY
- Gauntlets were purchased at Claires
