I have been happily working playing in my Visual Journal.
Here are more of my background pages reading to journal on...as always, hoping they ignite and inspire you.

(These pages were created with acrylic paints, water-based paint pens and permanent markers.)

I often post photos of my handmade visual journals here - but rarely share my personal journal pages. Many have asked that I do - so today I will take the plunge and share just a few photos of the pages that are always a work in progress...hope they inspire you.  Grin

23  2 New Coptic Art Journals! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: February 21, 2010 09:42:38 AM
I finished TWO new Coptic bound Art Journals this weekend!

The covers are canvas boards (4"x6"), each is an original one-of-a-kind using acrylic paint, stamped images and machine stitching.

I use 140#index paper for the signatures because I love how it stands up to layers of paint, collage, ink...you name it, it will take it and not wrinkle!  Grin

I hope they inspire you!

24  Peace-Love-Art ...a journal in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: January 21, 2010 09:08:44 PM
I still can't stop making journals! Grin

Here is one I made recently. I always use canvas boards for my journal covers - why worry about warping?... and besides...canvas boards are affordable and readily available just about everywhere in a variety of sizes.

I did a lot of layering of paper and paints on these covers to achieve the look I was going for. It measures 5"x7" which is usually the largest journal I make. To create the words Peace - Love - Art I stamped the letters onto the same type of paper I use in my journals (140# index) and then I cut each letter out using an Xacto knife before gluing them to the cover -- I love dimension and incorporate it whenever possible on my covers. For me a journal has to 'feel good' in my hands as well as being functional.

Hope you like it - I am happy to share my techniques - don't be shy...just ask! Wink

25  A Tiny Art Journal! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: January 14, 2010 02:01:19 PM
I L.O.V.E. making journals and I am always searching for new ways to keep them interesting.

Often I like to work 'small' - especially the size of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) - so I made a few journals for working in this size. They measure 2 5/8" x 3 1/2"

These particular journals were inspired by Talavera tiles - another one of my loves  Cheesy

Art Journals don't have to be a standard size - be creative in your journaling as well as in the size of your journals - changing things up opens up all kinds of creative possibilities!

26  I'm back and I'm making Art Journals again :) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: December 13, 2009 08:26:42 PM
Coming back to Craftsters is like coming home again  Grin
I hate it when I am away - yet feel like I never left once I return.
Although I am working 45+ hours a week I am finding time to get back to making my art journals again.

Here is my latest journal - I designed the covers using many layers of decorative papers as well as creating my own embellishments. This is truly a mixed media creation, even using the sewing machine to stitch on paper.

The inside signatures are my favorite journaling paper - 140# index stock. I can paint, collage, stamp, draw...do virtually anything to this paper and it takes it all!! The more you layer various media on this paper the cooler it looks and feels! If it is available to you do yourself a favor and get some. I get mine at Kelly Paper here in Orange County in Southern California.

I used a Coptic stitch so the journal lies flat - it is my fav method of binding!

I hope you enjoy seeing this and it inspires you to GO MAKE ART!!!

28  No Place Like Home Journal in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: August 29, 2009 03:38:38 PM
While going through (what feels like) a store-house of digital photos I came across my No Place Like Home journal I made a couple of years ago.

I simply cut the bookboard (for covers) and the paper in the shape of a house.

This might inspire you to think of different shapes when you make your art journals!

Some of you have asked me to share more pages from my personal art journal.
Here is one I did using acrylics, paint pens, water-soluble crayons, a vintage rubber stamp (perishable), and a heart shaped hand-carved rubber stamp.

Hope you like it!

30  Art Journal: DYLAN in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by jolenemarie on: August 09, 2009 01:27:09 PM
I want to thank everyone who has sent me comments and personal messages regarding my art journals and art journal pages Grin That is what I have been missing since not being a part of Craftsters for awhile (other commitments)...this community of artists and those who love art. All of you inspire and motivate. May the circle be unbroken...

Here is another one of my pages in my personal art journal...it is simple, yet I feel it makes a bold statement. I hand cut a stencil of Bob Dylan, the background is painted with acrylic paint (applied with make-up sponges) and the words are written with a water based paint pen. FREEDOM was cut from a 'zine and collaged.
