21  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Shipping via Canada Post! Canadians help me out!!! on: October 11, 2008 04:18:50 PM
first of all, your postal guy is an a-hole! most people at the offices are really nice & will give you a break if it is a light item. i've been selling online for years, first thru ebay & then my own site. what i do if an item is slightly 'irregular' item is buy the postage at the counter for whatever oversize postage costs to where you are shipping it to & then drop it into the mailbox. just remember to NOT put on the small packet sticker. i've never had anything returned to me for extra postage. sometimes the rules at the canadian post offices are really dumb! i hope that this helps you out a bit.

i've been doing a little promotion lately & found some useful sites that i thought that i might share. some of you might know about them, some not. anyways, here goes..

http://lunacraft.com/index - they have a pretty good directory & a '101 ways to promote yourself for free' page. i found a lot of useful websites here

http://www.dmpmc.net/THMD/ - the handmade product shopping directory. It's MASSIVE with lots of categories!! 'nuff said!

http://www.theswitchboards.com/ - a place for women in business to connect & talk. promotion of websites is encouraged.

http://www.indiepublic.com/ - they have an awesome 'shameless self promotion' thread on thier forums

http://www.indieshopping.com/ - a pretty good directory & there is an option to submit products that you make to get faetured in their blog.

http://www.indiecollective.net/ - they have a really comprehensive directory with an etsy store section. the website has a really good layout, too.

http://www.craftoodles.com/ - a MASSIVE directory of all things handmade!

well, i hope that this post was informative. all of us crafters have to stick together!!

i'd love to do a tutorial, but i really don't want to give away my 'secrets' but i will tell you this. i make them with coloured macrame cord & pony beads. you can pretty much buy all the stuff that you need at michaels & any fabric store will have the snaps & dee rings.
