I just came across this site today. I think it's something more people should do.  The tradition of the "white envelope" is simple but incredibly powerful. In lieu of a material gift at any occasion, do something for someone else in honor of the recipient. Write up what you did, put it in a white envelope, and give it to the recipient as their gift.

This would make a great gift but I think many craftsters out there could make the envelope if they so choose to do so, out certain types of paper or make something to hold the envelope on if they don't have a tree. Just thought I'd share this.

I don't know how many people do this or even make their mashed potatoes homemade these days, but here's a little extra ingredient that makes them oh so good.  Eggs!

I know simple right. When you are boiling the potatoes then hardboil the eggs at the same time.  When it's bubbling then cool it off with cool water, Peel the eggshell off. Chop them up into small sizes and then add them to the potatoes when you mix them together on a fairly high speed.  It gives it an even better taste and I've yet to find anyone else who does this.  I think it's suppose to be some secret family recipe but come on its just eggs.  I think everyone should enjoy the great food that I get treated too, especially at Thanksgiving.

EDIT: She also adds a little bit of milk and some butter but I think thats more to taste.

The other gift I made for my cousins baby shower was this Winnie the Pooh blanket. 



I didn't have to quilt it but I thought adding a little embroidery and cross stitch here and there would give it some pizazz.

While browsing photos on flickr.com looking for some inspiration I came across this doll quilt. http://www.flickr.com/photos/uklassinus/2443246412/.  An idea came to me to make a lap quilt but with my dogs on them.  So a couple of months later I finally finished my little labor of love.











I ripped out what I quilted many times, finally decided to go with simple for the most part.  I'm proud of it and I'm glad I did.

Unfortunately this year it seems theres a lot of drama in my family and my aunt emailed saying not to get her anything for Christmas.  So I decided that I would honor her wishes and do something different which I hope to make a new tradition by giving to my local SPCA. I'm going to take what money I would have spent on her and my uncle and buy items that the shelter will need based off their wish list and just send them a Christmas card with a letter telling them that I did this for them.  Hopefully, they will at least like this gift and it'll feel good to give to  a charity as well.  Who is with me?

This is my first lap sized quilt and the 3rd quilt I've done.  I like it, well most of it.  I like it enough to actually post it to all of you, who are way better.  Sorry my dog is laying on a part of it.  She looked cozy, so I didn't want to move her.



I've seen people put strip of color on the backing and I like it, but no one else seems too.  I know it's not lined up correctly but what do you think of the backing?

My brother is being deployed again and I want to make him something small that he can be able to have.  It doesn't have to be useable.  Last time he went over I wrote him a poem but this time I'd like to do something else.  The basics I can do are sewing, drawing, scrapbooking, writing and that's about it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  BTW he's not overly sentimental but I do know he's grateful for what he gets.
