This is part of a sibset* with another painting (the as of yet unfinished "Ghostly Elspeth, Who Is, Unfortunately, Dead") - at first I really disliked it but now I'm really happy with how it turned out, in the end. I'm in love with names and I'm compiling a big list of my "old-fashioned" favourites for just this kind of work (since girls are all I draw I might as well name them!). I think I've decided on Sukey for this one (as in, "Polly put the kettle on, etc etc, Sukey take it off again, etc etc") - Elspeth was always definite but I wasn't so sure about this one, so it's liable to change. I'm still working on a title (maybe "Sukey, When She Was More Alive" or something. Although Elspeth is definitely dead, and seems aware of it in her portrait - Sukey doesn't...I'll keep you updated.)
No scans yet, if I can get a good one tomorrow I'll upload it.
Close up with Ghostly Elspeth so far:
Sukey is very much mixed media, more so than Elspeth - watercolour background, oil painted portrait, ink (painted, not a pen - oils are so difficult) outlines.
Should I add something to the background? I'm not sure if I like it simple or if it's missing something - I wanted it a bit like an old fashioned portrait in front of that mint and grey "wallpaper". What do you think? Maybe I'll just give the wallpaper some more definition or something, or maybe give her a shadow? Or should I just leave it? There's some progress shots on my blog too, if you're interested. Sorry for the rambling, heh.
What do you think?
*I picked up this word from baby name forums I mean pair...
Finally! I've had my package all day but I'm only posting pictures now. I had to wrestle my mum away from my two year old sister to get action shots, forgetting that I hate it when my mother takes my picture So after all that waiting, I tried to take some self-shots and by that time I was just so tired from getting up at the crack of noon to run down for my package (it was pouring rain and I wrapped my box in my raincoat to protect it on the half-hour walk back I had a hoodie, its need was greater than mine) so they're a bit eh but you get the idea.
Anyway, on to the pictures! Whileywoo sent so much awesome stuff and I didn't get pictures of everything individually, but I got most of them. Sarahwoo can add (or request!) any others she wants or has! I didn't get a picture of the big box with all the drawings and things wrapped up all pretty, because both it and I were a bit wet and I couldn't wait to just tear in!
Nope, this isn't even everything! Pretty fabric used to wrap everything in (will come in handy for learning to use our sewing machine, yay!), photo frame with myour Hogwarts' school motto, bookmarks, a Pensieve, other Potions containers (you can see what's in them in front of them - the brown box has things that I licked and then realised I wasn't supposed to , and the two round ones have other bath salts), and, you can't see it very well, but my Slytherin locket!
The rest! Two (!) tshirts, in rather psychically my favourite shade of pink and magically fitting despite the tag that would suggest otherwise (I thought they'd be too small, I was SO happy and amazed that they fit perfectly! Plus now I can pretend I'm skinnier than I really am ), and a really cute Honeydukes bag (High Street at Hogsmeade, doncha know Classy stuff!). I love the fabrics and the design and I can't wait to fill it with sweets
Close-up of the bag (the strap fabric is also the lining, and isn't the logo super-cute?!)
The Pensieve and locket. I'm wearing it right now It's so hard to get a proper picture of it, it's really shiny and there's loads of detail, I love it!
As my LotR-obsessed boyfriend would say..."They are not for eating"
Annnnd...action shots of the two shirts! There are seriously 60+ photos of me trying to get a good one. Of course, all the nice ones of the shirt are at the expense of my face, and I look fat in all the other ones...these are the best I can do:
The pink one is my favourite, I adore that dusty/fawny pink colour and the design is so cute! Note the cute little starburst on the sleeve too! (if you want a better picture of the top I can just block my face out of another one, I know mirror shots aren't the best. And, it's not too short, it's just the way I'm standing.)
You may have guessed that I love Luna And this colour! (Incidently, where are my eyes? I look like Moleman)
Sorry about all the photos, but Whileywoo just sent so much cool stuff! It's her (and my!) first swap so I wanted to do her justice. I can't decide on just one favourite - I really love the "Accio Cupcake!" shirt, adorable Hogsmeade bag and Slytherin locket, but everything's great. Thanks Sarahwoo
I got a package from Goldfishgirl today! She sent me a really gorgeous hat, and her package is in the post! I don't trust the postguy so I hope it gets there okay
Anyway, excuse the MySpazzy shots, no-one else will take pictures for me.
Isn't it gorgeous? It's my favourite shade of green (the middle photo came out too dark, by the way, the first and third are more accurate). It matches my eyes It's fits really nice and snugly and I can't wait to wear it out and show it off! It's perfect, thanks so much Goldfishgirl
And, if you look bosomwards (which I know you are all wont to do ) you can see the little Marshall badge she sent me too! I'm going to work on turning it into a pin but for now it's just clipped onto the top of my top And, I'm wearing the hat RIGHT NOW. At my computer, under my headphones. It's so nice
Pencil, watercolours and ink on an 8x8" canvas board (that I think is only meant for acrylics and oils, but it gives the watercolours an unusual look, I think). I usually bog things down with photos, so I'm just posting the one two () here this time, but there are more on my blog if you're interested.
I'd love to know what you think! This is the first finished piece like this I've done in a long time (maybe ever! It's my first time using one of those boards anyway and I haven't painted in forever) and the first piece I've ever really considered selling or making prints of so I'd love to hear any feedback and, if it's okay for me to ask, if you think it's saleable (don't worry mods, I'm not soliciting! Just asking for opinions, I hope that's okay). But mostly, just what you think of the artwork!
So I just found a stack of old Pokemon Trading Cards, as well as a deck of LotR Top Trumps cards, and thought I'd like to make something cool for my boyfriend. The Pokemon cards are ATC size, thin, shiny-ish card paper, with a cartoon of the Pokemon at the top and their moves and info at the bottom. Like so:
(image taken from the internetz, I don't have these cards)
The Top Trumps cards are slightly longer and thinner but are much the same. Like so:
I've never played the Top Trumps game, although I guess I could just give it to him as is. And maybe I should save the Pokecards as collector's items or something (but all the ones I have are boring and ordinary so I doubt they'd ever be worth much).
Ideas I had so far were collaging some kind of placemat (fairly boring) or making notebooks (collaging a big premade one or using a card each for the front and back cover and making mini-ones myself), but I don't really want to do the notebook thing because I gave him a Moleskine for his birthday and I figure he doesn't need THAT many notebooks. Other ideas could be to cover the Pokecards in clear plastic or something and try and make a bag for me, like one of those magazine bags, if I ever learn how to use our ancient sewing machine. The Pokemon cards are way cooler, for the record, and I'd be more inclined to leave them whole - the LotR cards I could easily cut up for the character pictures, but eh, dunno if it's worth it either. Another idea could be a magnetic noticeboard, but I don't know how to go about that and how expensive it would be to make and get the materials.
I wasn't sure whether or not to post this, because it's not exactly crafted, but it was a personal swap and I'm really grateful to the very lovely ScotSkipper, so I thought why not? At the very least it serves to show that ScotSkipper is a great person to swap with (these came before I even realised it, and I'm international!) And what better way to start off a gallery than with candy? Exactly.
So, I got a lovely little package of American candy for my boyfriend and me to share on our anniversary at the end of the month: a huge bag (squee!) of Jolly Ranchers (his favourite), three packets of Kool Aid (I find this hilarious - it advertises itself as "a good source of vitamin C" and "unsweetened" and the instructions say to add a CUP of sugar... ) in an Altoid tin (oooh the possibilities...) and six Tootsie Pops (two watermelon, two blue raspberry, one strawberry and one chocolate).
Unfortunately, the chocolate one disappeared soon after.
I, uhhh, don't know where it went.
Thanks again! Now I'm even more excited about my anniversary, I can't wait to eat all these sweeties with my sweetie (hahaha sorry) It's going to be so hard keeping these a secret (and not eating them ), I can't wait to give them to him. I just hope he doesn't snoop on Craftster...
Okay, here are some more coloured ones: Quick and simple Tonks (that's what you get for not having a body, I guess)
It's a little plain but I think her skin and twinkly dark violet eyes came out nice.
And...properly coloured Ginny! I love this, I'm really happy with it. If you're wondering why she's so tanned looking, um...this is after their trip to Egypt, k? Please note her little Gryffindor crest...I had a picture of it open in front of me for reference and there are even little diamond-shaped crosses in there!
I had no idea digital colouring was this much fun! I think I've started something
It was only a matter of time before it infiltrated EVERY board...
So I was never one for fanart, but last night (ahem, this morning at about 4am in bed) the mood struck me. It's really difficult after the movies, particularly OotP where a lot of new characters were introduced and in my opinion, really perfectly cast (I was apprehensive at first but I think almost all the new ones are perfect), and most of these don't even look like how I imagine but hey, they're fun! So these are my rough line sketches (I can only draw girls for some reason, and I know they're a bit samey)
Tonks. Her hair is a bit curly rather than spikey but that was on purpose (spoilery).
Ginny - there's something about Ginny that I have a bit of a problem with, I'm not quite sure what. Anyway, I wanted to try and do a really pretty Ginny (although Bonnie Wright is looking quite pretty herself these days). It didn't mention if she had freckles or not on Wiki or the Harry Potter Lexicon, even though she's a Weasley, so, I left them out for now. Hope you like the snitch earrings
And after doing Ginny, I tried to do Ron. And failed.
He's not naked (I wish ), I just often only draw necks and shoulders.
And this one I really like
I took a stab at colouring one of them in digitally with my atrocious software that came with my scanner - it's no masterpiece and it's completely flat but it gives the idea and was suprisingly fun! (I think I like her more with freckles too)
Oh, and they're all just inky pen on sketchbook paper.
Comments would be exceptionally welcome, as would constructive criticism (they're only sketches but it never hurts!). And please, add your own! (but give plenty of warning before the image if it relates to Deathly Hallows or is in any way spoilery though, thanks!)
ETA: I just spent far too long colouring in my Luna. I'm so happy with how she turned out - this was my first time ever doing digital stuff like this (aside from the above Ginny ) and ever using GIMP (I braved it, finally!) so please let me know what you think!
I'm Irish, and my boyfriend is Irish, but he adores America (he's more stereotypically "pro-American" than any of the Americans either of us have ever met ). So, I decided to make him a patriotic Fourth of July cross-stitch...which was finished very shortly after the 4th of July, but was only given to him yesterday. It's my second cross-stitch ever (I learned so I could make him something), took about one and a half to two days, and is about the size of my hand if my thumb had been horribly amputated.
For anyone who's interested in the back...some of it's actually pretty neat although it doesn't really look it because there are a few loose threads (and obviously a few mistakes):
(It has been blocked although the aida's a little wrinkley so it might not look it.)
Aaaaannd I made my boyfriend take an action shot :
Comments? Constructive criticism? I'd love to hear any feedback
