The skirt is gorgeous!  You said that you got the pattern while you were participating in a croceht-along.  Do you know if the pattern is still available, and if so, where would I find it?

Thanks!  I ended up uploading them onto Craftster photo hosting, and now they work.  For some reason, neither flickr nor my blog like me very much today 

Lately I've been fascinated with created crochet designs that involve crocheting into holes made in fabric or paper.  This project continues that trend.  The squares on the messenger bag are fabric squares that I sewed together.  I installed eyelets around the edges, and then crocheted into the holes created by the eyelets.  I then attached these fabric/crochet squares together and crocheted the rest of the bag, including the strap.  After this, I sewed a lining and lined the inside and the strap.  The result is a durable, unique messenger bag that combines crocheting and sewing beautifully.

Hook sizes: G hook and I hook

I keep seeing this pattern mentioned and didn't really take notice of it until now.  Because of yours, I might try it.  I like that the design is unique but not overpowering.

I remember reading in Couture Crochet by Lily Chin that crocheting into the back loop only also improves the drape of a garment.
