OKAY Dotee fans! The final dotee has been received! I made this dotee for Angelicus. She currently does not have access to a camera cord to be able to post pics, so I volunteered to show everyone her lovely.


Sorry for the poor quality, but it was the best I could do at the time. She was upcycled using one of my daughter's old sun dresses that she has long ago outgrown. The petals are from the same dining room flower used for Smmarrt's dotee. It is hard to tell but I used gold toned embroidery floss for the outline of the mouth and eyes. And because I think the best things in life have a bit of sparkle to them, I added touches of gold glitter on  each sunflower and around the face. I think she will bring warmth to even the most miserable gray/rainy day.

Thank you all so much for the heart-warming sentiments. Even with the bumps/craters that my road in life has gained, life goes on all around and it was nice to use this swap as a vehicle to merge back into the hectic day to day traffic of things.

A Star Wars fan, I am NOT!.....but Yoda is a mighty cute little green man. He was really easy to make too!

Hi all! I am new to crochet (one pot holder, 2 scarfs, and one hedgehog) and am a member of a site called swap-bot where you sign up to swap items with people all over the world. For one of my swaps, my partner was a huge star wars fan.
 
PLEASE BE KIND! This is the first thing that I have crocheted without a pattern to go by. I don't have safety eyes or any where locally that I can buy them so his eyes are made from beads. You, unfortunately, can see the brown thread that I sewed them on with but had no idea how to hide them.

I don't know if my partner likes him yet as Yoda has had to travel from KY to Germany and apparently it can take up to 30 days to receive there.

****UPDATE****
My partner emailed me and said that the Yoda was LOVED! She states that the little guy has made a trip to the parents house and received approval from them and the tooth pick walking stick has had to be replaced already because of too much play! I would say he is a hit!

I attempted to crochet upper and lower eyelids to make the more puffy look of the movie Yoda and I stitched a mouth on him but both looked jankie and so I removed them and just went with eyes. I could not find a twig small enough to fit the tight stitches. I wanted to make a life saber and walking stick out of sculpey but ran out of time trying to figure out the face.

Open to any C&C or advise as to how to possibly improve the face. I want to make another Yoda and a Darth Vader for my daughter to give to her father next X-mas so Please tell me how to make it the best gift she can give him!

Thank you all for your kind words, and prayers. It means a lot! I am pleased the the two partners that have received so far like them. I cant wait to hear from the remaining two!
I love the idea of recycling or up-cycling. Dotees are a great outlet for the smaller things that most people don't think about. I included upcylced earrings I made from one of my old chain belts for 3 of my partners and while I didnt recycle the fourth partner's earrings from anything, the ones I sent her matched the theme of her dotee well.

I have really enjoyed doing this swap. Everyone came up with such lovely little dotees and I am jealous of each and everyone of you for the dotees you received (but I wouldn't trade mine for anything! They are priceless to me.)

I will not be participating in another swap for a while. This was my first and a great experience but life kind of gets in the way of things sometimes and makes it difficult to finish on time.

very very clever--I particularly like the reuse of a bottle!  What a wonderful story of how you created this,strwberrytart!  It is fantastic--the little bones on the tail are just so whimsical!

Totally one of the most fun dotees!!  I love the colors and the use of unusual items!

I cant however, forget an=bout my last two swap partners! I received a couple of weeks ago but with my father getting killed in a car accident and then playing catch up with everything else, I have not been able to post pics of the lovelies I have received.

Here is a full length shot of Smmarrts dotee along with one of the back of her to show off her skull printed cape.

Each partner received a completely different dotee with the only common factor being that some part of each is recycled.

For your dotee, Smmarrt, the head was a gray plastic center "bead" if you will from an old Halloween party favor necklace from last year. The hanger is the actual necklace strand and the bones hanging as the tail were also "beads". I painted it white and then hand painted a Dio de los Muertos type look on it. The body is the upper portion of a sterilized 20oz. Dr. Pepper bottle. When you paint the opening of the bottle white, it takes on a look of vertebrae. The yellow petals are from a flower arrangement in my dinning room and the yarn hair is from scraps left from a previous craft.

Your questionnaire stated you like skeletons and a bit of whimsy so that is what I attempted to give you. I really hope you like her!

Improvement tip: He would look better on my bed than on the dresser in the pic.
