1  Re: Fiber Friday 5/2/08 in Spinning: Completed Projects by anakarina on: May 02, 2008 03:18:10 PM
I made some yarn this week, myself!

I bought the fiber from Hanks In the Hood on Etsy, and spun it on my lightweight Golding spindle, then plied it on a Spinsanity (etsy) spindle.

p.s. I was having fun 'styling' the yarn for the photos. I'm always very impressed with the photos everyone takes of their handspun yarns. I couldn't quite get the yarn to lie correctly in the first shot anyway, though

oh, and I want to make a little hat out of this, maybe a lacey one.

here's a pic of a calorimetry I made with another handspun of mine:

2  Re: Amanda's Squatty Sidekick anyone? in Knitalongs by anakarina on: October 21, 2007 03:18:54 PM
hey everyone, i finished my squatty sidekick and i wanted to show it off. I love it! it was easy to knit, took me several hours yesterday and i felted it today.

i used lion wool in the rose color (which is obviously hot pink), single stranded  with 10 1/2 us size needles

I lengthened the i cord of the handles to 6 inches instead of 3- and this was perfect.

and here's a pic of me wearing it- since when i was making it i kept wishing i could find a picture of someone wearing it so i knew whether to make the handles longer or not.

my fall winter list!
(deleted two projects- hat and scarf for self)

3. scarf for friend in chicago (made in 100% wool. and i will do just 2x 2 rib so it looks good from both sides
4. one skein scarf (from happy hooker book) for friend soon to be in massachussets.
5. the second sock. (hahahahah)
6. tank for my mother (http://deliciousstitches.blogspot.com/2007/05/lillian-tank-top.html)  complete!
7. ooooh maybe i'll make a cowl for myself instead of a scarf? i live in florida, but i'm knitting myself cold weather things because i'm going back to nyc this winter for two weeks!

added:
8. houndstooth clutch for myself (because i couldn't make myself buy the one i fell in love with at target.) i am using houndstooth-like pattern stitches from a coat in knit.1  green issue.

and i haven't decided yay or nay on this one but...

possibly

this afghan as a wedding gift for a good friend.  http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/60607A.html?noImages=
man that'd be a huge project. the wedding is in december. i wonder if i'd have time?

7  Re: Innocent smoothie/age concern uk Big Knit KAL (mini Hats) in Knitalongs by anakarina on: September 02, 2007 08:41:40 AM
hee hee (can't help it) how adorable! it looks like a lil wig, i love it!

here are my new ones:

skipper modeling the red orange and yellow hat.

a pink and purple hat

my earflap hat! i even put in kitty ears, hahahaha. the earflaps were stitches picked up along the bottom and decresed to a point, and so were the kitty ears. this was a sock yarn! lornas laces sock yarn and it make stripes because i was knitting something tiny!

I've been using knitpicks palette wool yarn (fingering/ 4 ply weight) for the most part and #1 (eek) double pointed needles to knit in the round.

my stitch n bitch friends love the little hats and i'm going to try to convince them to make some with me.

oh and i signed theknittingbee's petition!

i made my first one ! it took me about an hour to knit it and i didn'tcount how long it took to make the pom pom but it seemed to take way too long (making a tiny pom pom was hard)

i have a couple of questions for you if you've done this before or are more familiar with innocent drinks

1. i made mine out of acrylic yarn- in their instructions they use 100% wool yarn, i was wondering if you think they'd mind acrylic hats?

2. my size wasn't spot on- specifically the height- it's a little higher than it says in the knitting instructions. mines is about 4 cm tall (with the brim folded) and about 8 cm wide (the pattern says it should be 3 cm tall and 5-7cm wide). i wonder if it will fit the smoothie??

i just really wish they had these in the U.S. I'd die of cuteness if i saw these on a drink for sale... yes.. even considering i can make them myself.

does anyone know an equivalent sized U.S. drink bottle?

anyway, i love the little hat though, and it's adorable. i knit it in the round on dpn's insead of flat.

used red heart sport with #3 dpns

hat modeled by taco sauce

aww hat modeled by a bunny.

how may do you plan on making?

9  Re: Fitted Knits-along ? in Knitalongs by anakarina on: August 20, 2007 08:32:13 PM
hello everyone i am getting ready to start the drop stitch lace tank, i've been knitting up swatches.

i am going to knit it flat.

in regards to the drop stitch lace- i am knitting through the back loop on the stiches next to the yo's, and on the WS i am purling in the "combination purl" way http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/purl.php (scroll down to combination purl).

the stiches next to the yo's look nice and neat up til i drop that row and then about the top 3 stiches next to the yo and to the left look all loose and crappy Sad

am i overreacting? is this how it's supposed to look? maybe it won't be very noticeable when the whole garment is done? or is it fixable?

i've noticed a couple of people have turned their dsl "inside out" when done. is it because it looks neater on that side?

here's a pic of my swatch

ok, i have another question. i am using a worsted weight cotton/silk blend yarn for this and i swatched in stockinette stitch on size 7's - didn't get gauge, size 6 didn't get guage, size FOUR! and still not getting it. on the fours i am at 18 stitches width and 23 rows in 4" . i think it's getting out of hand with the smaller and smaller needles. there's surely something wrong with me!!! i was going to stop and just knit the thing on the 4's and hope for the best, but that means i'd have to knit the worsted weight yarn on ..#2's for the neck?? that's insanity!!!! ahhhhH!!!!!
