10642  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Good crafts for a 2 1/2 year old? on: August 26, 2008 04:17:42 AM
Make your own play-doh or flubber! My almost 3 nephew (a usually short-attention span kid) will play with play-doh for hours. The next time he comes over we're making flubber!

Also highly supervised melt and pour soap making! I melt the soap in the micro (very carefully, don't overheat) and let him stir, I fill the pipette with colorant/fragrance and he squirts it in, he sprays the mold with pam, I pour the soap halfway, he sprays it with rubbing alcohol to get rid of bubbles. When it sets he puts in a small rubber toy,he sprays again with rubbing alcohol so the soap will not bubble, I pour soap to the top, he sprays rubbing alcohol a final time. After it is set he uses it at the sink or in the tub, and when he uses it up the toy is his to keep!

Here's some pics of some turtle soaps (4th and 6th pics down) and a monkey soap (last 2 pics) that I made for a swap. My nephew found the turtle soaps, which weren't for him, they were for the swap, thusly our soapmaking adventure!

Yay! This sounds awesome! I love project runway, have just watched the first 2 seasons on netflix and have season 3 coming wed.  I don't get Bravo, but I have my sister in law's dvr set to record it every week, but I am usually 1-2 weeks behind. I am defnintely up for this! Also, I am trying to start up a project runway inspired purse challenge swap, link in my sig!

10646  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Results of reading this sub-forum on: August 26, 2008 03:31:46 AM
I was inspired to get out my serger and finally figure out how to thread the thing! I love reading about everyone's machines!
10647  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: How many machines do you have? on: August 26, 2008 03:30:43 AM
I have a Janome sewing machine and a Euro-Pro serger. I am kinda mourning the fact that when I was jr high-ish my mom donated her machine to my jr high/high school. She thought it was crap (the amazing thing is that she ever had a machine in the first place, she hates to sew) but they fixed it and I ended up using it in jr high and high school home ec classes. It was a good machine and I wish I still had it!

Do you guys that have lots of them use them all or is it just a collection thing? Do you keep rotating which ones you keep in use?
10648  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What are your bad sewing habits? on: August 26, 2008 03:23:02 AM
I drop pins/needles, look for them and can't find them, forget about it, and later find them with my foot. Also biting or trying to tear thread and having way too many wips. I have a bag that is all ready to be stitched together, cut out with the notions in a ziplock bag...and it's sat for almost 10 years in my closet. Also the repair jobs thing! It is pretty much a joke in my family now for someone to ask me to fix something. Basically they have to give it to me, and sit next to me and make sure I complete it, or it will languish for weeks/months (years). There is a top I never fixed for my sister in law...2 pregnancies later I don't have to worry about it, it's never gonna fit her again!
10649  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Burned out on sewing? on: August 26, 2008 03:19:08 AM
I definitely go in spurts where I am into 1 craft and not interested in all in others. Crochet is pretty much a constant for me, but I'll go without sewing or scrapbooking for years, and then go wild over it. I've never considered getting rid of my sewing machine or supplies or scrapbooking stuff though, I know I will always come back to it!

Maybe do a swap or buy a new sewing book or a pattern for something you wouldn't usually do to get back "in the mood"?
10650  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: FRIENDS TV Show Swap (Sign-ups CLOSED; Sendouts 9/20) on: August 26, 2008 03:07:50 AM
I'm trying to figure out if one of my ideas is feasible.  I mean, in my head it totally is...realistically, I'm not sure. Cheesy

One of my ideas I totally don't know how to complete. I may have to ask on craftster...so don't post stalk me partner!   Grin

oh, and where Mike says something to Joey along the lines of "You're a strange kind of adult"  HA!
