If you are considering getting a digital slr, keep in mind that you will be spending a lot on lenses. It can actually become an addiction. The lenses that come with most kits will not be as sharp as the more expensive versions. The Fuji S9500 is actually a very good non-slr and performs much better than most consumer point-and-shoot cameras in low light.

I was a pretty heavy green apple soda drinker when I was in seattle. I submitted some photos online but it seems like a crapshoot because they get so many. It doesn't take much time or effort to submit your photo, so it's worth it to try, and think of how cool you would be to see your photo in the supermarket. Good luck if you enter and send us a link so we can vote for you.

Regarding bubba*tink's Cosmo the boy pug photo:

This is a great photo - perfect exposure, good focus and detail. I've always had problems taking good pictures of my black cat. What equipment, techniques did you use to achieve this shot? I'm assuming the dark background helps to prevent overexposure.
