11  Re: Measuring Tape Cozy made from felt in Completed Projects by daina on: October 21, 2008 10:15:47 AM
My last one that's for a "planned" gift:)
Ball of yarn was totally stolen inspired by monkeythumb:) The matching needlebook is the kitty in the other thread:)

The boy wanted to be in the pic:)

The button and ribbon are just slightly off color. But I think they work...Also shows what i did with the side. I left the bottom blank

Now, the hubby told me during the making (wel right after I finished) That you can see the dark measuring tape under the light felt. So he said, just double up on the light felt and you won't see that the tape is red or black. So that's what i did on this one. And that does something lucky, turns it into a place to stick pins:)

plus, I made the ball of yarn puffy, and put it right over the retract button this time (added dimension) and that works great for pins too, so i REALLY think making this into a double duty pin cushion/tape measure cozy is a GREAT idea (not that I didn't before, but no, even more so....

Thanks everyone!!

12  BOO-Tiful Ghost Stuffy in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by daina on: October 21, 2008 04:40:20 AM
So....This guy was made for a Dear friend of mine for a readathon. he's seven, and from what i understand, Loves him very much:) I made him from a white tee material and used fusible fleece, to make him softer and so I could sew him easier (still not great with stretch fabrics...) I embroidered a spider (that looks like an ant) on his right eye and used a button for his right.
The whole ghostie:)

Close up of the eye:

His Bottom reads"reading is BOO-Tiful" (I have a thing for bottoms:)

I just drew an open book and used the comic sans font from the computer. My writing is horrible, so I needed to use the computer for the font:)

And..He has a little friend:) A little ghost bear. I actually put him on a pin so he could be worn seperately by the owner if he wants. Plus, I put the little one together with Glow In The Dark thread and I've been told he really really glows. Yay!!!!!!And he says BOO on his belly

Hope everyone likes!!

13  Felt Wee Folk Doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by daina on: October 20, 2008 04:18:19 PM
Hello!
I made this for the dear Monkeythumb.
I used the tutorial from the book "Felt Wee Folk". I highly recommend this book!!!I've checked it out of the library three times and now it's on my amazon wishlist.
She's made from Chenille stems and embroidery floss, a wood bead and an acorn cap. I was a little sad to see her go, but I know she will be well cared for Cheesy Her tunic and skirt are made from felt and her hair is made with wool roving, I thought the ponytail suited her.

Close-up of skirt with freehand embroidery

Close-up of face. Sorry the pics are blurry, why can't I master the camera?? I used a pre-finished wood bead, but sanded the finish off (cheaper this way). Then I used color pencil to trace the face on. This was my second dolly of this kind started and my first finished, so I'm sure I'll get better with the face:)

She was sooooooo much fun!
Enjoy!!

17  And another!! in Completed Projects by daina on: October 17, 2008 04:41:51 AM
Here's another one. Going to my SIL who is a musical therapist. I'll be making a needlebook and pinnie for her too (procrastinating on the pinnie because I've only ever made one of those and it was a total copy from the dear monkeythumb, so I'm nervous...) Anway...The colors are Deep red, burnt orange and tan. She really likes fall colors. The retract button isn't in a great place, you kinda have to search for it, but it's OK. Other than that, I really like this one! I'm so happy my blanket stitch is getting more even with everyone! Enough of my babbling....
Top and the button. The button is a very nice button, but you can't tell so much in this pick:( And the ribbon is brown, not the green that is looks...

Bottom

Side, with more music notes:)

Notice my pointer finger in that pick, the red marks? That's from constantly poking myself in the finger with scissors or needles. I'm really to clumsy to sew by hand:) That's the same finger that I sliced a few weeks ago, but that's all healed and there's barely a scar:)

18  First Crocheted Afghan! in Crochet: Completed Projects by daina on: October 16, 2008 01:08:52 PM
This is my first crocheted aphgan. i made it for my great aunt for Christmas, and I seriously want to keep it:) It's just made of Vanna's Choice Yarn. the tanish color is called "linen" and the other three I don't know, they are left over from another project I did (and still haven't completed:( But they are obviously varying shades of pink. it's roughly 4.5 X 4.5. So I think it's a really nice size:) It's not as wonky as it looks in the pics, only a little wonky actually.
I did a one row Singgle, one row double throughout the piece. the border is six rows of single, one row of treble then six more rows of single all the way around. That last row of single took FOREVER!!!
I hope you like it and I hope she likes it more Grin
Folded up

Close up of border

The whole thing
There's not really a spot in the middle of the blanket. I think my camera may be dying:(

OK. Another one. i didn't put anything on the side, but I did a big starburst on the bottom...

Check out this post with the needlebook/cozy combo!!

Thanks Monkey for the compliment on the last one. I really like covered buttons now. You just have to cut a teeny tiny slit where the button will be, for the shank to go through, and sew it on that way so it doesn't wobble above the fabric. And the retract button really needs to be on the bottom for this one...

20  Needle Book and Measuring Tape Cozy - More Felt Goodness in Completed Projects by daina on: October 15, 2008 04:50:43 AM
So, totally inspired by monkeythumb. She does these needlebooks so well, I had to try one (or twenty) myself Wink And thanks again to graced for the tute on the measuring tape cozy!!!Loving it more every day!
So, part of my MIL's Christmas gift. I'm also going to make a pin cushion. All felt. There's a yellow and a green in there. But my camera doesn't like working without flash (that may be a user issue Cheesy).

Here's a pic of the two together (My MIL has a craft room and it's all yellow, she buys yellow things just to put in there and the walls are yellow. And last year she started liking the bright green too. So, that's why I chose these colors...)I really like the way the flowers turned out. They make me happy.

The front of the needlebook.I really like the way the flowers turned out. They make me happy. This was my very first needlebook:)

The back

The front of the cozy

And the back. Under the center of the starburst is where the retract button lives:)

Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think!!
