61  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Mixed Media Wall Art... The Call to Camelot on: March 02, 2011 07:25:34 PM
Trying new things and branching out a bit....
The mask out is plaster(I have a mold) and the helmet is made from polymer clay baked right on... I used a piece of stretched canvas as my support. Used scrapbook paper and burned the edge for one half.. Added some paint on the other half of the canvas and drew the sword.
She's secured on there with heavy duty adhesive... Now I need to figure out what to use for the cord to hang it...
62  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 60 ENTRIES / Dragon's Egg Light made with a real egg! on: March 02, 2011 08:56:13 AM
I've been so excited about this project. It's been in my head for awhile and I even sketched it out a few times before I started it.
Now to the beginning....
My Mom has been a Faberge egg artist for many years. I grew up watching her work on everything from Finch to Ostrich eggs(we lived on a bird "farm"). I've done some work in the past but never as extensive as this.
The "Dragon's Egg" is actually an Emu egg. They have the most beautiful natural blue color, that's what drew me to it.
The base.. well the base was a thorn in my side for awhile. I couldn't figure out what to use. I spent so much time going to craft stores, thrift stores, dollar stores, driving myself crazy when what I wanted was on my back porch! We had changed out a broken ceiling fan and my son set aside 1 of the glass shades for me in-case I wanted it for a craft project, he knows me so well.
Then I was off and running!
From the base up:
I used liquid polymer play tinted with yellow paint and painted the glass shade.
I made the flames with the skinner blend technique
The egg was hollow already but I cut the base a little wide for the light to come in
Cut out the little opening for the eye
I made the baby dragon's eye with "glow in the dark" polymer clay and a glass pebble that I painted with liquid polymer clay(So the eye glows when it's lit)
Then I had to attach it all together. I made a thick base between the egg and the shade to resemble black rock. I then added some loose stones I had in my craft room.
Liquid polymer clay attached the flames and everything else together. Added some painted flames on the inside of the shade for dimension. Used a light kit I had and viola! The "Dragon's Egg Light"

The humble beginnings:

63  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 59 ENTRIES / Ugly old men's sweater.. New Owl pillow for the couch on: February 01, 2011 04:07:56 PM
I wanted to do this challenge in the worst way... I combed the Goodwill piling my cart full of ugliness and then it occurred to me.. "I need to make something that I could really use!" and I needed a pillow for the couch... So I ended up with 1 item.. a horrible sweater for $3.99.
I washed it in hot water and felted it and got this! FYI I love this pillow!

the ugly sweater... eeeewwwww

My dog scaling down the recliner to check it out:
64  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / 2 new fawns on: February 01, 2011 04:01:25 PM
My last 2 fawns... I love making them, but I'm running out of room!

65  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Otto the Gremlin on: February 01, 2011 03:57:52 PM
I'd like to introduce Otto... He's Gremlin, not the Spielberg kind... His favorite hangout is your garage!
He stands at about 15" tall and is posable... a little. His head ended up being a lot heavier then I had calculated so he has chopsticks supporting his spines and legs...
I made his jeans and shirt from a pair of old jeans and a T-shirt I swiped from my husband... he only pitched a little fit. Plus a pair of baby sneakers.
I want to dirty him up a bit(Grease and grime)... but I can't seem to do it!

Otto had a run in with a cat... Poor thing lost an eye.. Claw marks are kinda hard to see in the pic

Chillin at my desk at work

67  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Autumn.. My Prototype Fawn.. on: January 02, 2011 03:44:56 PM
Well I've officially decided that I hate pattern making! Just Kidding, this little booger has driven me crazy since October. I'm still not completely happy with him. I need to tweak that pattern a little.
Enough complaining... I love these little fawns that have been popping up all over so I decided to make one myself.....just a little bigger. So here's my first acceptable attempt... Yes there is a small pile of mutant fawns on my sewing room floor...

68  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / New Portable Sewing Kit from a Cigarette case! on: December 27, 2010 07:01:16 PM
I needed to take a few sewing supplies on the plane so I could do some embroidery. I also didn't want to get held up in security so I made this!
I had originally covered the front of the cigarette case with polymer clay but I hated the end result color. So I covered that with a gold leaf mix and a little paint. I pulled out the cigarette braces added some magnets and viola!

69  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Jazzed up Ipad Case on: December 27, 2010 06:53:40 PM
This case was just a little to plain for my taste so I painted sparrow(I'm obsessed with them) on it. Then I sealed it with some polyacrylic!
70  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My Little Doorstop on: December 27, 2010 06:40:42 PM
So this poor neglected Pony needed some serious love and TLC.. You want to see the before pic? Well I sorta deleted it by accident. But it looked like the little guy at the bottom .. Just think stained and bad hair cut.

So after a shave, paint, new hair and what is best described as a "BB" Enema(Yup she's stuffed with BB's) I Give you
