41  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Rainbow Chakra Tree of Life Pendant on: June 14, 2014 08:13:05 AM

I made this with the traditional seven chakra colors of the subtle body in mind. It also happens to be a pretty rainbow! Cheesy

I used all natural gemstones: amethyst, tanzanite, blue topaz, peridot, citrine, (orange) carnelian, and garnet.

42  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / It's a Girl! / It's a Boy! little baby bird nests on: June 14, 2014 08:02:52 AM

I've made bird nests for awhile now but those almost always had multiple eggs. (Sometimes I'll do ones with birthstones and such.) But then I was inspired to make simple, one-egg bird nests with a single blue or pink glass pearl egg. I was thinking of new moms who would want to have something to help announce and celebrate the new addition to the family. Grin

A big, soft, comfy Mike Wazowski eye pillow and the cutest baby Mike and baby Sully!
Oh my goodness, this is too funny. Because I received from spikefan today and look at what was in MY package!!

Mike and Sully from Monster's Inc! Grin Cheesy

The tiniest little Phoenix ever! (Jean Grey from the X-Men in her green Phoenix outfit is my favorite!!) It's so teeny but perfect.

A stained glass rose from Beauty and the Beast. This is easily my favorite image from the movie. It's so lovely and well done.

But...

...but....

THE SINGLE BEST THING EVER is coming up next. Combining my massive love of Calvin & Hobbes and Back to the Future.

Bask in the glory!! It's Calvin dressed as Marty McFly. He's even holding the "Save the Clock Tower" flyer!! And Hobbes is dressed as Doc Brown - complete with radiation suit! - and the hoverboard. Seriously. This is amazingly awesome. The level of detail blows me away.

(You can click any of the images for larger versions.)

Thank you SO MUCH spikefan, it's such a great collection of items!! Grin

Turned out great!  I love that you got the key to go along with it
Yeah when I went for my birthday I saw it and grabbed it because it was just too perfect!

That's so cool, PFD! I love all the details and the clay sounds like a prefect fit for the job!
I was just looking into buying that brand's paperclay as people seemed to love that a lot (to use in my felting).

I didn't know You're so good at modeling! Smiley
Thanks! I didn't know I was any good at modeling either!

I tried the "Creative Paper Clay" brand first but it wasn't sticking right and the skin on my hands was really irritated by it. The "La Doll" stuff is real stone clay and I didn't have any problems with it. I would definitely recommend the La Doll stuff though. If I could make something out of it, someone much more experienced could do a lot more! Wink
46  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Dexter "Slice of Life" Charter Boat Tour Shirt (with blood splatter!) on: June 13, 2014 12:37:15 PM
I made this for spikefan in the Movie/TV swap!

Inspired by Dexter and this pinned shirt, I made a reverse version on white so I could add blood splatter. (It only seemed fitting!)

I made with a freezer paper stencil I cut out by hand with an X-acto knife. This is only the 2nd stencil shirt I've ever done and much more detailed than the first one I made. I was really happy with how it came out!

47  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Dead Man's Chest from Pirates of the Caribbean on: June 13, 2014 12:16:53 PM
I made this spikefan for the Movie/TV swap. It's inspired by the Dead Man's Chest belonging to Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

(You can see the key I purchased at the PotC attraction at Walt Disney World to go along with it.)

I was working off this pinned inspiration piece: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Dead-Man-s-Chest-FINAL-79994029

What I did was start with a plain, unfinished wooden box from Joann in a pirate chest style. I didn't want to use polymer clay because I didn't want to have to put a wooden box in the oven. (Seemed like a risky idea. Google said some people do it but there can be shrinkage and issues with water being released from the wood which can cause the polymer clay to come off.) I needed something air dry so I looked into options.

After some experimenting, I wound up with LaDoll Air Dry Stone Clay to add all the embellishments and details. I had never used it before but it was just like real clay and I was able to slightly wet it to blend, push and smooth it out as I sculpted it on the box.

I put it up on a shelf for about 4-5 days to cure. When it was done, it was hard and perfect. La Doll can be painted with just about anything, so I used several colors of regular acrylic paint to give it aging and weathering. Accents with a gold metallic Sharpie finished it off.

Even though I had never done anything like it before, it worked out really well. I quite liked the product and I was really pleased with how it turned out too!

Piper came up with me to my Mom's today to help her clean. (I try to go up every week or so since she is disabled with RA and Lupus to do her floors for her.) Here you can see Piper trying to help push the steam cleaner but...she was a little too small. Grin
