3491  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: OTT 19 (Signups 6/30/08 - 07/20/08 Mail by 08/09/08) on: July 02, 2008 08:13:18 PM
Sorry - I think I'd worded it 'non-Roman alphabets' originally (but I think, linguistically speaking 'script' is the right word. Because not all languages spell letter by letter. Some of them spell syllable by syllable, and others spell 'idea' by 'idea')

So basically - anything that's not abcdefgHIJKLMNOP etc etc.
Ah.....yeah, Ok. I know what you mean now. I just kept looking at it going....hu? Like a puzzle you're missing the key clue on.  Wink

Thanks!

3. non Roman scripts
Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand what you mean by that one. Can you clue me in...?

Trees was one of mine too! My others were dragons, Nintendo, Kawaii, and green (as long as we are sharing).
Yay, trees!  Grin Actually, your themes sound fun to craft for in general.

Yay I'm in!! Okay, after reading everyone's input on the themes, I may have been TOO specific lol but hopefully that's more helpful than anything else Smiley
*chuckles* Well, in that spirit, if nobody minds, I thought I'd post what themes I picked. I didn't know if they were too weird or specific or whatever, so maybe if we share, we can get a better idea if some of us need to broaden out concepts out a smidge more.

I picked...1. phoenix (the mythological bird, not the city!)
2. owls or penguins
3. daffodils
4. trees, dryads and other tree-based things
5. Disney (parks, characters, history, etc. Feel free to inquire about specifics if desired)

It's a nice variety, right?  Wink
3495  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Re: The Guilt of the Flaked-Upon. on: July 01, 2008 03:19:06 PM
I just wanted to add that I'm sorry you got flaked on for this swap. I really enjoyed the whole process of working on the swap over the course of several months. It was fun to have a longer term project like that. So the frustration of months of work turning into flaking....ugh. Anyway, I understand feeling guilty for asking for what can seem like an excessive amount. But I think no matter how big or small the swap is, you shouldn't personally feel bad for someone else's error and lapse in fulfillment of an obligation.

Survey sent! And I agree - little swaps are great fun!  Grin
3497  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Miniature Yarn Ball Rainbow Bracelet on: June 26, 2008 11:01:57 AM
Smiley You did it.  It looks great!  Love the colors.  Looks just like the earrings.
Thanks! It was a great idea to expand it into a bracelet.  Grin

I don't think this question was answered in either thread, so I'll ask again: how did you make the floss "stick" to the beads?  You just went around and around and then.... tied a knot on the inside or wove in the end?  Or used a little dab of clear glue to anchor the end on the inside?
Strategic knotting. I fear glue would be far too messy. So I knot in the beginning to have a "hold" for the wrapping and a final knot at the end to keep it from unraveling.

I saw your earrings in the Pimp my Username gallery and loved them, but I love the bracelet even more!
This rocks!  Grin
Thanks! I'm glad superhooker liked the earrings too. Afterall, it was her username that inspired the whole yarn ball jewelry in the first place!  Wink

Cheesy Thanks guys! The earrings were fun to make and I'm glad they're so well received.

Oh my goodness... I L.O.V.E! And you're from Florida, too! yay! Wink
Thanks! And yup, I've lived in the Tampa Bay Area most of my life. Came down here when I was nine. (I'm 31 now. Heh.)

uber cute! are the beads solid yarn or did you start with beads and wrap around?
Wrap around. I use large pony beads and embroidery thread and turn the ugly plastic beads into yarn ball goodness. Takes awhile for each but they're so cute when they're done.

Thanks for the lovely feedback everybody!  Grin

look at this charm!  I have the big version, they're exactly the same!
That's so awesome! How funny is that?  Cheesy

I'm so glad you liked everything. I've got a detailed photo of the bracelet here in my Flickr craft gallery for anyone who wants to see all the charms.

I had posted the miniature yarn ball earrings as a new topic a couple days before I sent to get opinions on them. I was worried you'd find it and know it was for you, but I made sure not to mention it was for a swap.  Wink

Yay!! I'm so happy you like everything. I had a wonderful time in this swap and would love to swap with you again in the future.  Grin
