PFD, I think this might help with you broken image:
I use Google Photos for my picture hosting now. It can be a little tricky - you need to add the photos to a shared album, or get a shared link, and from that location, right-click the photo to open photo in a new tab without the Google Photo interface. Copy that insanely long address just like you would for one of the addresses that actually end with a file image type. The trick is making sure the image you are trying to post has been put in a public/shared album for "anyone with a link". You can test the links by opening an incognito mode in your browser so you aren't logged in to your Google account from that window and see if someone else would see it from the link.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I actually did that in the test image. I always add my LV pics to a public shared LV album. I copied the insanely long link and one person could see it; one could not. I've heard from some people elsewhere that "public" might really be "public for anyone with a google account" but I don't know for sure. (I had problems on another forum before I found the specific hotlink url for images via the Picasa interface. Some would see public shared images and some would not via that stupidly long link. But EVERYONE saw them via the shorter Picasa link that ended in .jpg It worked that way for over a year until they officially just retired Picasa and changed the access page to basically an archive and took away the TRUE direct file link url access.)
Flickr should hopefully work basically the same though since I got it to auto backup my camera pics too. It makes them private by default but it's simple enough to select the ones I want to make public and then it gives me the direct URL link (it actually gives the BBC code so it's even less work on my part; just copy and paste.)
I don't know why Google Photos doesn't seem to play well with everyone, but it's touchy again now that the Picasa interface is gone.
