581  Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 55 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by phoenixfiredesigns on: February 24, 2010 10:50:38 AM
I received my AWESOME Kate Spade "Beantown" inspired bag from luckdragon on Monday but it's been a crazy week since I just started my new job. I love it! I took it to work yesterday even! Grin

(There was the cutest "I am the Walrus" card with it that I had to show off in this pic.)

She even found a PHOENIX zipper pull! Freakin' awesome!

And the cool, green patterned inside:

It's absolutely brilliant, luckdragon! Thank you so much! Cheesy

Those of you in round 55 probably just saw my other post detailing what a crazy week it's been (Love turned the big 4-0 yesterday!) and how behind I am posting this week's awesome mail. You may have also seen the owl goodness I received from two others in that round.

Well, I also received from MommytheMaid a couple days ago who made me two cool pillow slipcovers with owls! Wink

She also included some craft beading wire which I can certainly use. The owls are really cute and the covers have an easy flap to slip the pillow right in and out.

Thank you so much, MommytheMaid! Grin You'll have to show off the ones you wind up making for yourself as well. Wink

It's been a crazy week - Love had a huge birthday yesterday (the BIG 4-0!!) so we went away and we're having a party tomorrow and meanwhile I just have not had a lot of time to post pics! So I have two lovely packages to share.

First up, padfoot sent me a fun phoenix AND owl inspired package. A "Potter Puffs" version of Fawkes the phoenix is stitched on a handmade ipod case and then there are two adorable little felt owls (with very detailed tiny, stitching!) which are just super cute but which I have to keep away from my cats who think they'd be fun to chew. Cheesy

As you can see the Touch and headphones fit great in the easily accessed Velcro pockets. Thank you so much, padfoot! I love how cute the phoenix and the owls are. Grin

Second, I received last night from Avabrowneyes who made me two great owl items! A stitched owl (which is sized for an 8x12 frame) and an owl tote with the most adorable owl fabric ever.

The tote is a perfect size for library runs or post office runs. I'll have to keep an eye out for a frame for my stitched owl too - sometimes frames are the hardest part, so I totally understand leaving it up to me.

Thank you Avabrowneyesfor the owly goodness! Grin

My package from BonEsInspired arrived today!

First off, I'm totally jealous because you can't get tracking numbers from the US into Canada so that's awesome you got one from Canada into the US. Secondly, they did really good - got it very fast for the standard slowpoke US-Canada/Canada-US mail turn-around time average! (We all know how poky it can be to ship between these two countries for no logical reason!)

Third, the poor box got a little beat up:

But it's all came through safely!

It was HEAVY and STUFFED full! Grin

Fabrics, beads, ribbon, patterns, pins, mini rubber stamps, mini bottles, and a host of random little goodies.

Close up of the smaller stuff:

Thanks so much for the craft supply infusion! I look forward to putting it all to good use. Grin

(By the way, your thank you gift is done and just needs to be mailed next time I'm at the post office!)

585  Under A Full Moon At Midnight in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by phoenixfiredesigns on: February 10, 2010 01:34:52 PM
A variation of the "Under A Full Moon" original pendant in this style, this one is done in a permanently colored dark, navy blue wire. The wire makes me think of midnight. It's such a rich, deep color that it almost always looks black in pictures but truly, is a lovely, dark blue. (It looks very much blue in real life.)

This one is a little larger as I didn't use a pre-formed ring on it, instead making my own. And the blue wire gauge is a hair thinner so it has a little more of a craggily appearance. I love the blue and mother of pearl though. It's a very striking contrast.

As always, thoughts welcome!

586  Under A Harvest Moon (Earrings) aka "Make it work!" in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by phoenixfiredesigns on: February 10, 2010 01:15:37 PM
Ok, so you might have seen the original, "Under A Full Moon" pendant and it's follow-up, "Once In A Blue Moon" and wanted to see more colors and variation - the biggest request is for an orangey, "Harvest" moon color. And I totally hear ya. I want that too. So I went online and ordered some more coin beads and waited patiently for them to arrive.

Well, they arrived yesterday. And clearly in my haste to order them, I kinda failed to actually read the details. Namely, the size of the beads. *coughs* So they were, um, well...tiny.

But, in the inspiration of Tim Gunn's battle cry, "Make it work!" I got creative. And I made earrings instead! Grin

So they're fun and I think it was a good use of an otherwise "oops" purchase.

(And yes, I HAVE ordered some REAL sized coin beads and they are on their way! Grin )

Comments and feedback always appreciated.

I made a pair of freshwater pearl cluster earrings for akredhead that she received a few weeks ago and thought I'd show off. I was pretty happy with how they came out. They took me awhile to make due to the individual pins I had to make but the result was a really cool pair if I do say so myself. Wink

They didn't photograph terribly well - any kind of iridescent stone never looks as nice in pictures as in person - but here's a shot of them anyway:

I also sent a Wallflower refill from Bath and Body Works but didn't bother taking a picture of that. I hope you've enjoyed them, akredhead! Smiley

589  Once In A Blue Moon in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by phoenixfiredesigns on: February 05, 2010 03:03:16 PM
Well, since everyone had such positive things to say about my Under A Full Moon experiment, I've made a follow-up piece.

This one is called, "Once In A Blue Moon" and features a large, full moon in a lovely aqua blue shell.

I still plan on making others including a Harvest Moon and some in other wire colors like copper but this is the first color I was able to get my hands on today. Cheesy I think I'm going to make a series out of them and am gathering materials and supplies now.

As always, comments welcome!

So I have seen people make some bare Tree of Life pendants before but I hadn't really made any. The other night I decided to make a Winter/bare Tree but with a full moon in the background. It was an experiment I went into without a real plan but I think it worked out pretty darn good.

I definitely will be trying some more versions and seeing what else I can come up with along these lines in the near future. I'm just too addicted to playing with wire these days, I wind up making pendants while on the couch watching tv all the time. Grin

As always, thoughts welcome!
