Monday, we braved the Memorial Day crowds and heat and decided to head out to Honeymoon Island. This is a very rustic, natural island north of the more famous local beaches such as Clearwater.

True to name it is an island and it's unique for having a more rocky shoreline with limestone and coral rocks. (Most beaches in this area are pure, white sand.) You can even find geodes and agatized coral right there within the rocks! We even found a few of the agatized coral rocks in our walk! It was so crowded and the tide was high so we didn't get to look a ton so we may have to go back and do some more detailed exploring another day.

It's a very different park/beach from the norm and Apti thought the rocks were really neat!

Wow, @Inselaeffchen! I had no idea there ever were NFL teams in Europe! How funny is that?

Nothing exciting has been happening around here this week. I was mainly just catching up on orders after taking most of my birthday week off. Plus, I have two shows coming up back-to-back on June 5th and 6th, then we'll be part of the art show within the St. Pete Pride festival at the end of June which is HUGE and draws like 50,000 (!!!) people so I'm trying to ramp up for that.

It's Memorial Day Weekend here in the US so it's a 3 day weekend but we're not doing anything exciting. It's also stupidly how outside - feels-like of 108F/42C yesterday - so it's hard to want to go outside! Grin

Yesterday was my birthday! My husband surprised me with something I've wanted to do for years: indoor skydiving!! All the fun of flying/freefall, none of the jumping out of a plane. Wink

Apti watched some advanced people first:

But of course, he was too small to fly himself. But here's me flying!

I had so much fun!! Grin

Today we went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron. We strategically picked a 6:10pm showing on a Monday in hopes of it being much less crowded and without the need to get there like an hour or more early to get good seats.

Turned out our gamble worked. Here's the view when we arrived:

Ultimately, there were maybe 15 people in total in the theater which holds like 200 or something. Score!

Yay! Grin We might just go back to seeing more movies in the theaters now that Monday = dead. Even the box office was closed and they just had you go inside to buy tickets. Guy at the guest services said Mondays are always super dead. We like going to the theater but hate the crowds, loud kids and mad rush for seats so it felt like a theater almost to ourselves! Grin

Yesterday we went over to IKEA Tampa!

Here's a bit of the view of downtown Tampa from the 2nd floor cafe.

And some lunch we grabbed while there.

Apti tested out some furniture.

...and had a moment in the perfectly-sized spotlight! Grin

We also got a chuckle out of the large art print of the Tampa skyline for sale. (Next to London, Paris and NYC.) Grin

And we also saw an actual passenger train go by on our way there. Normally, we only see cargo trains so this was a rare sighting!

We had a fun day!

My package from rantyhippie arrived!

Here's everything:

Hedwig/Harry Potter owl plush, Phoenix (Jean Grey from X-Men) mini pillow, Mike Wazowski and Sulley teacup and saucer, Marty McFly (Back to the Future) cross stitch plus a Spiderman card and Mickey pen/notepad set. Grin

Hedwig Potter plush and Phoenix pillow:

Mike & Sulley cup/saucer set. (Mike's saucer says, "put that thing down or so help me!" and the cup is spotted blue with purple like Sulley)

Marty McFly:

The Marty is funny timing because I'm currently putting together my first ever cosplay costume to attend my first ever con this summer (Tampa Bay Comic Con)....and I'm going as a girl Marty! Just yesterday I took this photo when a few pieces arrived in the mail. It's still has a lot of work and detail but it was the first time I had key pieces all together to try on!

Thank you rantyhippie!!

Today we had to run to downtown St. Petersburg and while we were there, we renewed our Sunken Gardens membership and took a few minutes to show Apti some of the historic gardens. Long time LV swappers will probably recall photos of Sunken Gardens from previous rounds but it's just so darn pretty, I love taking my visitors there! It's over 100 years old and right off the major street but you enter it and though it's compact, you would never expect such lush gardens right off a busy road!

(can you spot Apti in this shot? Cheesy )

Even though we only stayed briefly (there were a bunch of mosquitoes plus we had to go to another store down there before they closed) it was still nice to take a few minutes and enjoy the pretty scenery.

It was a lovely day out yesterday so I took Apti over to a local park. It's right on the edge of Tampa Bay so there's both scrubland and marshy waterfront.

As ever, click any pic for larger version!

(He's hard to spot here but look on top of the canoe!)

(It's a long, windy drive into the park)

(There's a boardwalk along the waterfront and canoe launches)

(Some of the scrublands including this dead trunk covered in Spanish moss)

(Local Live Oaks covered in Spanish moss next to stairs leading up to an elevated viewing platform)

(canoe for rental)

(the view looking out across the estuary. You can see the boardwalk from earlier shot off in the far right middle of the photo)

(The pathways are all bleached out shells.)

There's a little taste of natural Florida! Grin
