11  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Dyeing tennis balls? on: June 27, 2016 02:51:04 PM
Thanks for the tips!  I guess I'll have to do some more digging.  If only cans of tennis balls had materials listed on them like clothes do.

13  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Dyeing tennis balls? on: June 13, 2016 02:27:58 PM
My boyfriend and I love playing tennis.  But it can be frustrating when there's other people at the tennis court as well and balls start getting mixed up.  We've found some pink tennis balls to use, but to be honest, they're not the greatest and don't last very long.  All the really colorful tennis balls are dog toys and don't have enough bounce to them for a real game.  Since Sports Authority is going out of business we came up with this grand plan to buy a bunch of tennis balls for cheap and then dye them fun colors ourselves.  I guess my question to those more experienced with dyeing then myself is: does this actually have a chance of working?  I'm sure the tennis balls are covered in a synthetic fiber but have no idea what.  Would RIT dye work on them?  Or will we need something stronger?  Since they're all starting off that bright green/yellow color, are there some colors that we should avoid trying?  Will dyeing possibly ruin the bounce of the balls?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Those are really cute!  I love the strawberry one.  Are the little dangling strawberries from pincushions?
