1  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Brazilian Redwood scraps on: November 16, 2010 10:50:29 AM
Wow! Thanks for the suggestions!  I was actually thinking of something very similar to the mirror frame, but either as a picture frame (a large one for my parent's stone mantle) or a headboard for a bed (possibly too rough for one??) since the pieces are kind of large.

I love your lamp idea, too.

I'm going to see what I can do, I'm in a race against my dad using them as firewood Sad
I'm open to any and all suggestions, there are lots of scraps Smiley
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Brazilian Redwood scraps on: November 12, 2010 12:07:39 PM
Hi everybody,

My dad's neighbors just finished putting in a new deck in their backyard and the builders gave my dad several big boxes filled with scrap wood, which they said was Brazilian Redwood.  It is beautiful wood and extremely heavy for the size!!  The scraps are mostly triangle shapes around the size of my hand, some small rectangles a few inches wide, and a small stack of thin trim.  I discovered this when I visited my dad and he was tossing it into the fireplace!  He said it did seem a little sad, but he had nothing else to do with it.

They also gave him a bunch of scrap cedar from the roof part of the deck, I didn't see the size of all of it, but I believe it is in bigger chunks (it is in his wood pile in the backyard).

There must be something I can do with all of this beautiful wood!  I would love to make something useful, but I am not much of one for woodworking so it can't be too complicated.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!!!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: The bajillionth 52 Reasons book! Pic gigantic! on: February 20, 2009 11:10:32 AM
I LOVE IT!

I was resisting the urge to make one of those...but now I'm not sure I can!  Plus, we are exchanging gifts and having a special dinner tonight, so I don't think I would be able to anyways.  I wish our anniversary was soon!  I hope you don't mind terribly if I copy a few of your cards- they are just so inspired!  I just have to add something about zombies or ninjas in there... hmm, would it be awful if I told him he had to wait a few days?? Probably, considering Valentine's Day was last week.  Hopefully he will like the little gifts I made him (one was a silly kid-inspired 'coupon' book for all sorts of fun things, Cheesy hehe), but your cards are so fantastic!

Yay! I'm so glad they liked everything! And I'm glad you waited for them to be there to open everything Amy Rose!  I had so much fun making everything, I'm happy they liked it all.  I was having such a good time making buttons I made a bunch for all my friends, some WOW and some not...everybody got buttons!  I made my bf one with a blood elf symbol on it  Grin I actually had a really good time making all the little tags, too- I think I made ten little tags for the package?

I'm glad to hear the mugs made it there okay.  The other three said "/Drink" "WTB [Black Coffee]" (with little letters at the bottom saying, 'Contents are HOT! Do not pour on self or others'- it's what the screen shot says for the black coffee, lol), and "If you can read this, you're in my agro range"

yay!   Cheesy

I received my package from elisegreene last night, and it is fantastic!  She made me a soulshard bracelet, a hearthstone mirror, a voidwalker glass, and an amazing ebon shadowbag soul pouch.  If you didn't guess my main is a warlock Cheesy

Here is a group shot:

There are better photos here on a slideshow:

On the slideshow there is a close-up of the fabric, it took me a few minutes to notice, but it has this wicked skull pattern on it!  The bag is so classic-looking, it was so neat to look closer and see the true warlock-ness come through.  This bag was definitely made to hold the souls of my enemies... (with room for makeup and a cell phone!)

This was such a great swap and Elise you were an awesome partner!!

I received my package from acidtrix a week or so ago, and she was the best angel ever!!!  When I opened my package I was so excited I couldn't stand it.  She is so unbelievably talented!  She sent me:
Two Amigurumi of my beloved little bunnies
A scratch board of my (family) dog
A ton of dog cookies for my other dog
A donation in honor of my brother's guide dog!

She went so above and beyond!  My family dog is fifteen (and a half  Wink) so I really wanted something memorial-like instead of something 'useful', it is so amazing my parents stole it from me to frame and keep it at their house!! I will probably let them hang it there, until I'm not living with roomates anymore... Roll Eyes  The dog cookies are great, they are peanut butter and carob and I am pretty sure everyone has tasted them Cheesy  Since my brother lives with us, and thus his dog Katie, acidtrix wanted to make something for her, too.  Guide dogs have strict diets and other restrictions, so instead acidtrix made a donation to a guide dog foundation in Canada!!!  My brother was so amazed and grateful, it made him really happy because he knows how important the funding is for these organizations.
I should also mention that about five days before I received my package, my bunny Lizzie died.  It was heartbreaking, and even worse her partner, Twitch became very depressed and angry.  They were bonded rabbits and very in love, he is still very upset  Cry  I was so happy when I saw the Amigurumi acidtrix had made, It felt so appropriate as a tribute to my Lizzie.  My boyfriend was tearing up when he saw them.  It was such a wonderful gift and we were so happy to have it.

Apparently the photos I took were too big for the craftster hosting (oops) so I posted them in photobucket.  There are a ton of them...and I also posted a few of the dogs and bunnies so you could see how amazing the resemblance is, acidtrix even got Lizzies little face right!  Please please look through these!! I want acidtrix's work to be admired by all! Grin

I wish I could capture how beautiful these are, but it would be impossible.  I know acid took some pictures before she sent, and I am sure they are better than mine, so check them out, too.

I will quit yapping (and possibly get back to work...) here is the link for the photos:

Extending the send-out would be great for me!  My last final is today!  I have hardly slept in the last three weeks, so very very little crafting time Sad  and I don't want to rush my big one  Cheesy

My term papers this semester went just awful!  I have to share this because I'm so pissed still.  I spent hours finishing my semantics paper and then deleted it right before it was time to print...i seriously cried the night it happened.  Worse than that, I turned in a very large, very worked-on paper, which I had spent months researching and writing, and I get an e-mail back from the prof, he said it was completely not what he wanted, and he would not accept it from me, period.  He gave me a week to write a new one...didn't turn out so well Sad AND HE OKAY'D it at every point!  I repeatedly asked questions to make sure I was on the right track, he ok'd my prospectus and ok'd it again with later questions....i slept last night for almost ten hours....same amount as the rest of the week put together Sad  So....I really had to share all that....but tomorrow, I get to craft again Cheesy  Once I am able to go work on it I will be very close to done Smiley  And then summer semester starts a week from Monday... i'm exhausted but so excited to finish my package  Grin

Personally I find PvP boring, but that's what's nice about WoW, there's room for both

I totally agree Smiley I used to like AV before they changed it, mostly because it was like a big raid with little bosses, one bigger boss, and random pvp LOL.  I used to raid a bit, did MC for the felheart gear Smiley  My bf LOVES to pvp, all the time.  I pretty much suck at it if I am caught by surprise (esp hunter  Tongue)  but, if I am ever being ganked (who remembers STV!?) I have him get on my character and he beats the hell out of them.  It is so funny to think of those poor players sitting at home, killing me so easily, and then suddenly the same warlock is slaughtering at least six of them!!!  Also, this was mainly when warlocks were totally nerfed hahaha.  How sweet is my bf?  Cheesy When bc came out he leveled a BE lock and was raiding constantly...I just do not have that kind of time! Plus, the jerk plays horde now mostly.  He was raiding three nights a week plus sunday....freakin' slacker! He is only working part time right now and has all the time he needs, but at least he started playing his pally on alliance with me again, he got bored raiding.  When I was sixty I got bored raiding, too.  So I started a little tauren shaman and she was fun to pvp with.  then bc came out and i went back to my beloved lock  Grin

now, since you have heard my (wow) life story...I will probably get back to work  Cheesy
maybe...or I might work on more crafting ideas Grin
