For christmas this year, we invested in a book on how to make cupcakes. This was the result...








Go forth and spread the cupcake goodness 

I was inspired by a very talented friend of mine to get into cake decorating.
This cake is my first attempt using marshmallow fondant
It is fruit cake covered in a layer of marzipan, then fondant
I was a little disappointed that i couldn't get a bright red and green colour using the food colouring i had but i have since bought gel food colours which are supposed to work better.

my brother and I made this together as a centerpiece for christmas day.
we got the idea from the better homes and gardens tv show

well, would you believe that i had a normal sized cake box just lying around... so what i did was copy the shape on a much smaller scale and cut that out of the cake box cardboard

the template looked something like this...


just make sure that the base and lid are squares of the same size and that they are bigger than the diameter of the cake
the rectangles form the side flaps.
the long sides are the same size as the squares and the short sides should be a little longer than the height of the cake
when you assemble the box the glue goes on the flaps and put the flaps on the inside of the box so the outside looks neat

I made up the cupcake as i went and the donut is my bro's first crochet project- the pattern was from crochetville i think

my fingerless gloves lol

these were my first ones i made from a pattern book (patons i think?) and are knit flat
except i changed the pattern, i made the cuff longer and chose to do 2 separate colours (the cuff is a beautiful fluffy wool)


then i made these from a pattern i found on a blog

i really liked this because you can knit it flat or in the round- i like options
but i made them much longer and didn't even have to increase or anything cos the pattern is stretchy.

so i tried to make a slightly more complicated cane than a bullseye one, so i decided on a flower. Now that turned out less than pretty and doesn't deserve a photo but nothing went to waste and the hippy flower bead was born-a little wonky but i still love it.

next i tried citrus fruit canes. I give you lemons and limes. After i got tired of poking holes through the millions of lime beads i had managed to make (who knew a cane could get that long lol) i rolled them onto a ball- the bead now affectionately know as the squished lime bead.
