11  adult costumes: our cats!! (IMG HUGE) in Halloween Costumes by jessimocha on: October 30, 2007 09:17:39 PM
[ETA: i'm really confused! i thought i posted this under the general hallowe'en board because i only just now found out about the challenge entries and i was going to make a post here for that but couldn't find my original post...did someone move this here or am i going crazy?? help!

also, as this is now an entry i guess, though i did make both our costumes, since my boyfriend's shirt wasn't handmade (the rest was, though) it's okay if this entry is just for my costume and not his.]

so the day after hallowe'en last year, my boyfriend and i woke up and were petting our kittens in bed and said boyfriend todd decided we should have gone as our cats for hallowe'en since we have one girl and one boy, and we are one girl and one boy. so this year, we did it!!

here are our cats for reference

(black and white is moxley, the boy, and the calico is squiggle)

and this is us!

me (with squiggle)

my face:

todd

his face

the rundown! Cheesy

i made:
-my dress from a sheet
-my "shawl" (okay, i just cut a rectangle into a triangle)
-my "legwarmer" (you can see it in the pic of me with squiggle. she's got a spot in that spot on her leg.)
-my purse to match another squiggle spot (it's not in any pictures but it turned out wicked. just a circle with straps on it) - out of a weird velvet outfit that was brown and black
-my tail (also out of that weird shirt/pants combo)
-my ears (out of a scarf)
-todd's pants (out of a sheet - i just made the thai fisherman's pants cuz he wanted 'em anyway)
-todd's cape, ears, tail (all out of an old blanket)

and i painted our faces cuz i used to do it professionally at canada's wonderland. the paint we used was real cheap though so that's why it looks kinda terrible Wink

i bought all the material from a goodwill and a sally ann up the street and i think i only spent under $20 if you don't count the white tights that i wanted anyway. and since october went crazy fast and hallowe'en totally snuck up on me, i made everything in a couple evenings and one full saturday

hooray! tomorrow i'm not working and i don't have any plans, but i do plan on waking up and putting this on for the whole day! Cheesy

thanks for getting this far! comments definitely appreciated.

12  four new friends! (my first amigurumi!) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by jessimocha on: September 23, 2007 11:17:29 AM
hello all! i've been great with starting christmas presents this year, and these are going to be for my boyfriend's adorable little niece (she turns one in january).

these are the first amigurumi i've ever done and i love them! i got the patterns from this website: http://kristieskids.weebly.com/patterns1.html

it's also the first embroidery i've done for features, so i messed up a bit. but given they're likely to be drooled all over and tossed around by a baby, i really don't mind. Cheesy

that's alla them together. i can post individual shots if anyone wants to see the detail. i love them!!

comments and criticism very appreciated, as these are my first. thanks for looking at the little guys!

13  my version of the infinity dress [img giant!] in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: August 29, 2007 11:32:48 AM
i decided to have a go at the infinity/bandeau dress. i was mostly inspired by my friends all buying the dress from american apparel, and then by this post/discussion: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=104089.msg989831#msg989831

but i did change it a bit from both designs. (i used a half-circle skirt, eliminated the band, etc)

i wanted to make this for so long but in no way could afford the belle knit i wanted ($25 a yard?! &%$# that!) but found this beautifully coloured remnant on sale. because it was just the end, i didn't have as much fabric as i wanted and i couldn't make it as flared as i wanted to. but i still love how it turned out.

here are some photos of multiple ways to tie it.

basic halter:

side view:

my favourite way to wear it:

same as above but with the straps flattened (for when it gets chilly on summer evenings)

the back:

another style:

and another:

there are tons of other ways to tie it, but i figure that's enough photos. (it drives me nuts when people post a thousand photos in the exact same position of the exact same thing. though these are different styles so i feel that makes sense...?)

i've got some pretty silly faces in these photos, but i'm not apologizing for them Cheesy

comments and criticism very much appreciated! Cheesy

14  empire waist dress with fruity print! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: August 29, 2007 11:10:03 AM
hi all!

i made this dress last week for a wedding i went to this weekend. i didn't use a pattern though i was definitely inspired by dresses from this here wonderful place (obvy).

it's basically just a half-circle skirt and the bust part (which was the left-over half circle from where i cut out the waist).

detail of bust (after ironing the band wasn't such a crinkle fest)

the back (i had to use ribbon because the two ends didn't connect right when i used buttons)

and the amazing fabric that i adore Cheesy

so there we go. i love how it turned out. it was so comfy and absolutely so fun to dance in.

comments are like sprinkles on the cupcake of life Cheesy
thanks for looking Smiley

15  cute button-front puffy sleeved shirt! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: August 12, 2007 11:22:28 AM
hi all

i made this shirt the other day from fabric i got for about $3. yay! i've never made a button-front shirt before, though i love them, and this was a really fun project. i just traced the shapes of another shirt i had and added a few modifications as i went.

tha front - this was my first time ever using darts, and i love them! with my hips, i can't believe i hadn't used them before Cheesy
that's squiggle in the background Smiley

the back

collar/sleeves/button/fabric detail.

please excuse the wrinkles - i fell asleep in this last night and then threw it pretty sloppily in a pile. this is the first project where i've fully realised my need for an iron. haha.

comments/criticism greatly appreciated. thanks for looking!

16  slouchy bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by jessimocha on: August 04, 2007 11:13:52 PM
hi all! this is the first bag i've ever made. i found the fabric in the remnant bin for only $2!!! yay!

it's very basic and uber slouchy:

i can wear it like this when i'm on my bike

i luuurve it. Smiley the handle is nice and wide so it feels good on my terrible shoulders.

comments are sprinkles on the cupcake of life. Wink

17  ikea pillowcase into cute top! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by jessimocha on: August 04, 2007 11:08:14 PM
hello! a friend abandoned this pillowcase when he moved and i attempted to make it into a shirred top. that failed, so i made this Smiley

this one has the best colour

and it just ties at the back

apologies at the somewhat terrible photo quality. i have yet to buy an actual digital camera.

my question for you ladies, is it fine like this or is it kinda slutsville and needs some straps? if straps, halter or on the shoulder?

comments are delicious! Cheesy

18  duck shirt / circle circle button skirt! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by jessimocha on: July 20, 2007 08:21:03 PM
hi! this is my first clothing post, and my first item of clothing made in a *really* long time! hooray for spontaneous new sewing machines  Cheesy

i cleaned up all my crafty things lately and found this XL men's t-shirt that i had already taken in and chopped at the collar years ago. i used the left-over bits of a circle skirt i had screwed up (made out of a sheet.. i measured way too small) and then had inspiration to fix the skirt with some buttony goodness to match the shirt. i've thought it looks tennis player-esque.. but i don't mind that, really.  Smiley

and the back! my first applique!

button /collar detail

skirt button detail

there are some places i gotta fix but i'm pretty lazy and also am pretty cool with it anyway. i love it!!!
