11  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Not christmas stocking socks! on: November 06, 2007 09:24:46 AM
I started these socks in april for my mum as a belated mothers day present.  I did one - ok but not brilliant.  But oh my word has the second one taken a long time!  The pattern was very repetitive and I wasn't keen on the "measure so many inches from the start" method, I'd much rather count rows.  The second one is on the left and is the better of the two, but I am lazy and didn't want to frog the first. Never mind.  It is made in Lion brand woolease thick and quick in Cranberry, and is the Country Cottage sock pattern from the lion brand website.  They should be cosy for my mum as she pads around her boyfriends farm! Hope you like!

Its beautiful!  And great that it was only one skein!
13  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / First timer sock yarn on: October 29, 2007 01:45:26 AM
Hi,

I am debating making my first pair of socks and before I take the plunge with some reduced Opal yarns online I wanted to get your opinions on which yarns are "best" for a beginner.  These will probably be presents, so its better if they can be machine washed.

Maybe its a case of "suck it and see" but I thought if I could tap in your collective wisdom it would be better.

Thank you!
14  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: Star Baby Blanket~Along on: October 18, 2007 06:04:36 AM
Does anyone have suggestions about a good way to fold or otherwise present the blanket up before you give it as a gift?  I have tried folding it a number of different ways and I am failing to get it looking good...

Finished my blanket!  It curls a little because I mixed the different weights of yarn, I think if I was doing that again I would use two different hooks to try and even it out.  I think ideally i'd have done a final set of 9 rows of rainbow, but it would have been huge then, and to be honest I wanted to finish it, even though it was fun to do.  Hope you like it!

17  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Red Blue and White Piggy Baby Quilt on: October 08, 2007 01:55:58 PM
Your quilt is gorgeous - and a great idea too!  When/if you have to wash this quilt, and if you're still worried about the colour running, then try using a colour catcher, they're really good for preventing colours running into other colours.  My grandma uses them so she doesn't have to run a whites and a colours wash, and they work well.

Duct tape?  Not sure how you'd do it but I've seen some lovely things made from it.

20  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Please help - trying to sort yarns for a star afghan on: October 04, 2007 03:18:04 AM
Thanks for all your replies.  They've made me feel much more confident about this blanket.  Its nearly finished now, but I ran out of black yarn so I'll have to get some more.  That's good news that its likely to keep its shape!  Will post pics when its finished.  Thanks again Smiley
