[inle_rah]

A couple months back, I got the most awesome skein of handspun from inle_rah in a swap.
I promised myself I would use it strictly to knit stuff for myself, because I usually end up neglected
So far, I've knit an Urchin and a pair of Fetching from it, and I am wondering what to do with the little bit that's left over.
So here they are:



This is the original skein, by the way. Every inch of this yarn is just riveting.

Since I saw the "Radical Knitting and Subversive Crochet" exhibit in NYC last February, I'd been wanting to try to knit portraits.

With my Mom's SO's birthday coming up, DH had the perfect idea - why not knit a portrait of Johnny Cash?

So I made a gauge swatch, prepared graph paper according to the gauge, photoshopped a photo of The Man, copied it onto a chart, and charted the words (from "Sam Hall") and got to work.

The colorwork is a combination between stranded and intarsia - since it's going to be mounted on a piece of felt backing I didn't really care about the appearance of the WS.
I'm two weeks late with it. Knitting through having two sick kids and no sleep at night, to name a few, does not go particularly fast...

Anyhoo, I'm really proud of myself for this, and now just have to be willing to part with it and give it to its rightful owner...

I just got Cat Bordhi's Treasury of Magical Knitting, and dove right into making my Mom a moebius scarf for her bday, in lieu of a lacy wrap that I had been botching up spectacularly due to baby-induced ADD.
Here is the first round OTN:

And the verdict?
Moebii are SO MUCH FUN! I've already started working on my next. You can find it, along with other WIP's on my blog. Just some advice - I strongly recommend taking Cat's advice to use a smaller size LH needle if you are using interchangeables. I didn't at first and had a very difficult time with the first round until I switched and then it just started flying.

I made this for a recycled clothes toy swap on another board.
I took an old (and well-washed) pair of my husband's boxer shorts, some leftover yarn from last winter's projects, random buttons I inherited from my dad, and the flower is from my ATC ephemera box.

Her name is Leeloo, she likes Indonesian food, Israeli folk songs, and bike trips.
Here she is looking through my crafts supplies to see if there is anything she wants.

I am trying to knit a lacy wrap for my mom, and with every lace pattern more sophisticated than a basic yo k2tog, I lose count within a matter of rows and f**k it all up.
I tried using stitch markers to indicate where I should be starting a new pattern rep, but they end up getting in between stitches that need to be worked together.
DH says not to work lace unless I have the peace and quiet to concentrate, so I can expect to get around to it in about 20-odd years.

Any good advice other than "buy your lace"?

I already found that my two year old enjoys drawing side by side with me.
I would really like to expand the repertory of things that we can do together. What other crafts can I teach her at this tender age?
Practical tips and links to stuff are more than welcome.
