5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fukubukuro swap anyone? (Signs-ups now open! Pop over to join!) on: November 01, 2011 08:19:48 AM
According to wikipedia: Fukubukuro (福袋 lucky bag, mystery bag) is a Japanese New Year's Day custom where merchants make grab bags filled with unknown random contents and sell them for a substantial discount, usually 50% or more off the list price of the items contained within.

I thought of a fukubukuro (lucky grab bag) swap to start off the new year with crafty supplies, candies and random items...

Anyone interested?
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Finally a Christmas swap? on: October 28, 2011 09:28:35 AM
Anyone wanna start up some sort of a Christmas swap yet?
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Plastic bottle lanterns *Now with pic-heavy tutorial* on: September 24, 2011 07:31:43 AM
Too many plastic bottles hanging around so...

Plastic bottle lanterns! A breeze to make and they look cute too. All you need is plastic bottles (i like colored ones), some glue, a stapler (optional), scissors and duct tape. Will do a tutorial if anyone is interested.  Smiley

First you get your bottle and cut out the smooth bit (usually the part where there is the label).

Cut it out and get a piece like this but don't throw away the rest of the bottle yet!

From the piece you cut out, roughly cut them into 1.5cm strips (you can also cut them more thin or thick depending on your own preferences.). Now cut out other strips(rings) from the rest of your bottle, 2 of 1cm strips(rings) and 2 of 0.5 strips(rings).

Fold your 1.5cm strips into half and fold 0.5cm on each end.

Glue your 1cm strips to form a ring each(once again, the size of the rings depends on you but the bigger the ring, the more strips you need to fill it.)

Apply glue to the 0.5cm tabs.

Glue them to the ring, space them out evenly.

Glue them to the other ring and in this case, I also stapled them after gluing for extra security.

Take the 2 remaining 0.5cm strips, snip a little in the middle (not all the way through!) fold the ends until it fits in the base of the lantern and glue or staple it.

Slot in the second strip where there is the cut and affix it.

Duct tape the top and bottom. I used only a piece of duct tape; I covered the front first then folded it back.

And you are done! You can also fix a chain to it to hang it around. I used a pushpin to poke (and widen) 2 holes in the sides, got a chain, opened one and push it through the holes.

I hope this tutorial is somewhat clear. Feel free to ask me questions.

Now that I made this tutorial I feel like making orange ones for Halloween... hmmm...
8  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / cute little kimono baby on: February 12, 2008 10:16:24 AM
I had an urge to crochet and started crocheting a peanut with some fuzzy yarn I found lurking around. And bit by bit, it became my cute little kimono baby.  Grin
I free-formed her and I didn't write down a pattern.. She's 8.5cm(about 3.3inches) and rather easy to make. Just crochet a peanut form, add hands and legs. The kimono is not that difficult to make either. I made it pieces then assembled it. If anyone wants to try making one I'd make some kind of a tutorial. Oh, by the way, she can take off her kimono. I might even make her some other new clothes to wear.. Haha..

Hug me...

Just to show off her obi(obi is the ribbon thing.. not a japanese word for butt)

The front of the kinomo

The back of the kimono

Do you think I should make her some shoes or give her a mouth?
Thanks for looking Smiley  Comments and critiques welcomed.
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Guard your halloween candy.. on: October 07, 2007 03:09:12 AM
I wanted to make one of these adorable pirate pals by Lion Brand, http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/70445AD.html

But I realized I only have a huge ball of green.

Here's my Halloween buddy

Hmmmm.. where did it go...

BOO!

Candy!!! Must... have... halloween candy... Give me your candy!!

oh oh.. he found candy...

DIG IN!!

Uhm.. He's my baby frankie(Frankenstein). Does he look like one?
I followed the basic pirate pattern. Just improvised on its look.
I'm off to make more halloween buddies. Anyone made/making one of these? I would love to see them!! Cheesy

Comments and critiques appreciated. Thanks for looking. Smiley

10  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Had a fimo day on: August 24, 2007 10:24:41 AM
So I had some fimo left from sometime ago.. And I decided to use them before they all dry up.

(ps. I put the white, rose pendent upside down by mistake.)

Heres the white one, on me!! Cheesy

The bf dabbled in some fimo for me too. A burnt gingy(from shrek), he says.

So, what do you guys think? I did spend quite a while do them.. Especially the flower ones. Comments/critiques/ideas appreciated. Thanks! Cheesy
