1  Oregon / Oregon: Northwest / Where to sell a crafty mag in Portland? on: September 05, 2009 08:39:58 PM
I work for an indie magazine out of Toronto, Ontario, and we have no distributor. This means I need to figure out where in the world would be appropriate to sell the magazine. You can check it out at www.wornjournal.com. We sell the magazine in indie bookstores and vintage shops generally, so if you have any ideas of what stores may be interested in selling a tiny publication, let me know. We already sell at buy olympia and we are hitting up Powell's, but beyond that, I have no idea.

Thanks!
Hillary

That is really awesome!

I wrote an essay on quilting last semester, and apparently presidential fabrics were really popular in the 1800's, and I was wondering where they went. Good to see the tradition is being kept alive.

4  CANADA / Ontario / COVERSTITCH MACHINE ON CRAIGSLIST IN TORONTO! on: March 27, 2008 10:27:46 AM
Ok, so I am a little obsessed with craigslist. But there is a coverstitch machine listed for $600. I don't know how good that is, but everyone tells me they are fucking expensive so I think this is a pretty good deal.

Hopefully it finds a good home.

I forgot the best thing ever!

Goodwill's "by-the-pound" store is now located at midland and the 401, on a side street by an umbra building. i wish i remembered the street name, but i'm sure you can find it online.

you can get a pound of clothing for $2! any pair of shoes is $2 too.

I know Ryerson has one somewhere for use, as does Sketch, which is an art collective for street involved youth, but I bet they'd let you use it if you asked nicely. In terms of buying one... I have no idea.

I'd still have to say buy it online.

There is a great thrift shop near pape station. It is a bit more expensive that Goodwill but I got a beautiful bcbg max azria dress for $25 or so. It's right beside the IGA.

Also, there are quite a few underused fabric stores between Main and Victoria Park on the Danforth.

The only other thing of interest I can think of is that Janette's fabric is having a huge moving sale. It's at Queen and Augusta (just west of Spadina) and it's pretty wonderful.
8  CANADA / Ontario / Re: teddy bear / stuffed animal eyes in Toronto? on: March 16, 2008 07:46:29 PM
it may be kind of a long shot, but my boss makes stuffed toys with beautiful, creepily realistic looking eyes. i can ask her where she got them, since i know she buys all her materials on queen st.

if the other eyes don't pan out, i will try to figure it out for you.

That's awesome! i have so many vintage patterns, I am now inspired to look at them a little harder to recreate something.
