11  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / how do you write on felt? on: September 30, 2007 07:10:10 AM
Yesterday, I decided to make something from felt for the first time. I made a "pattern" from paper, put it on felt, and went to trace it. But pencil doesn't work at all, tailor's chalk doesn't make lines (just flat shaded areas), and I can't find my fabric marker, but I don't know if that would even work. I ended up tracing it with pen and then washing the pen off after I cut it out. But I'm sure there's a better way? (I'm going to make more of them and post, and I didn't like doing it with pen)
12  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / memory wire cutters on: June 20, 2007 08:02:41 PM
Hiyas!

I need to get some memory wire cutters, and seeing how they're so pricy, I'd like to hear what everyone has to say about different brands.

Rings & Things has these for $20, which they say they tested for memory wire, but they're apparently not marketed as memory wire cutters:

https://www.rings-things.com/hazel-doc/Stock_Images/6/5/65-507-reduc.gif

But about.com says heavy-duty cutters not made specifically for mem. wire aren't as good as those that are, like the Beadalon ones (~$30). Is that true, or is about.com just trying to make some money by getting you to buy new stuff?

Thankses, everyone!
13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / glue used on sample cards on: June 08, 2007 03:48:59 PM
Not sure just how to explain this, but here goes... You know how sometimes, there are samples of shampoo or detergent that come in the mail or included with newspapers? They come in little pouches glued to cardstock-type paper. This glue easily comes off the cardstock paper and the pouches. What's this glue called?  Huh Thanks!
14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / painting metal wire on: May 15, 2007 02:53:13 PM
So I want to make a necklace from memory wire, and I want to paint the wire to match the pendant. Do you guys think acrylics + acrylic sealer will work, or do I need something tougher, like Krylon spray paint?
15  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / stud earring findings with ball end on: April 19, 2007 08:56:36 PM
I'm having trouble finding findings for stud earrings with *gluing pads* that are both sterling silver and don't break the bank. But I am finding affordable sterling stud findings with a ball on the end. They look like really plain earrings, not findings. What's the deal with that? Why is there a ball? How is anything supposed to get secured to that? I mean, it's round. Is it supposed to be melted and flattened? *Can* it be melted? The hottest thing I have is a soldering iron for electronics, but silver is soft, so do you guys think I can melt it flat with that? Thanks!
16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / where to buy colorful plastic hair comb blanks? on: April 14, 2007 07:16:45 PM
I want to make some hair accessories by attaching flowers I make to hair combs, like the yellow one to the left in this picture:

http://i21.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/92/dd/5f22_1.JPG (can't post pictures yet, sorry)

Problem is, that particular set is vintage, so there is no more, and it would cost almost $30 after shipping from the UK  Shocked

Does anyone know where I can get colorful hair combs like that one? I've scoured eBay and Google, and the best I found is a $10 set of 10, but only 4 are in pretty colors. I want fun, ice cream colors. Any ideas where to get them?
17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / next week, Joann has 50% off coupon on: April 13, 2007 02:40:21 PM
Actually, it's 2 coupons, one for Apr 15-19, and one for Apr 20-21. There's some other decent sales, too, like open stock scrapbooking paper 6 for $1. Can't wait to print a whole page of coupons and stock up! Smiley
