21  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / My new Sewing area.... (img heavy) on: March 10, 2008 06:32:56 PM
My sewing area was pretty small for the work that I was doing… and I was feeling a bit cramped so I decided that I needed to revamp it a bit…

So I have been keeping my eye on tables on Kijiji and looking for other ways to organize…. Then on the weekend I went to Zellers to pick up a few things and saw a demo Table on sale… it had a few scratches but for 200$ off... at only 50$ it was so worth it…
So I got it into the van… did the grocery shopping and then went to the hardware store and picked up a peg board (or half of one because they sell them 4X8) and then got home and went to work….

So In all I spent about 90$ (with that little container with drawers to store things in)

Here is before…

and now...

and even a place for my Zune...

and here is my fabric and some of my vintage toys...

22  COOKING / Dessert / Pouding Chomeur (poor man's pudding) on: September 25, 2007 08:31:43 AM

This is a traditional french-Canadian dessert that was made during the depression era… the ingredients are simple and were cheap and it is one of those staple desserts in french-canadian homes…

(yes… it is full of sugar… but OH so good)

    * 1 1/2 cup flour
    * 1 tsp baking powder
    * 1/4 cup butter
    * 1 cup sugar
    * 1 cup milk
    * 1 tsp vanilla

    * 3/4 cup Maple Syrup
    * 1 cup Brown Sugar
    * 1 cup boiling water
    * 1/4 cup butter

In a bowl sift flour and baking powder together… in another bowl, cream butter and sugar and add vanilla… then slowly add the milk and flour in alternating 1/4 cup increments until all together and smooth… spread in a buttered baking dish…

for the sauce… in a sauce pan, mix all the sauce ingredients together and bring to a boil… boil for a few seconds and then pour over the cake batter (do not mix)

bake in a 325 preheated oven for 45 min

23  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / my sushi.... on: September 25, 2007 06:01:07 AM
I make this about one a week....

These are my favourite... they have Salmon, spicy mayo, Tempura, Avocado, cucumber, and carrots...

I make about 60 peices for about 10$
24  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / First dress.... on: June 15, 2007 10:01:56 PM
This is the first thing I have sewn for someone else... it is a friends dd's fifth birthday tomorrow and I wanted to make her something... it turned out better than I would have hoped!

25  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / my first shirts! (update post 4) on: May 07, 2007 05:03:12 PM
ok... this was my test shirt just to practice putting things together etc (no pattern)... the fabric is a bit stiff (it was cheap and I bought it to practice with) and it makes me look a bit pregnant from the side... so I don't know if I am going to try to fix it a bit so I can wear it or what...
anyway... here it is...

And then I had enough confidence to make this one... which I am pretty happy with... I was about to make it about the same style but didn't have anymore of the same elastic... So... I got out the elastic thread and shirred it... I didn't know how to shirr but it worked...

Now I am thinking about shirring the bodice part of the first shirt to see if that looks better...
26  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Apron skirt on: April 21, 2007 04:19:22 PM
I still have to tweak it a bit cause it is a bit too big and a bit too long (I rolled it up for the pic) but I am really happy with it... and with the mushroom applique...

the colours are a bit off in this pic

27  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / My first Skirt!! on: April 19, 2007 09:53:13 AM
I just finished my first Skirt!!!

It took me 2 days to get it done and I even did my first Applique of a dragonfly…
(eta... the 2 days was when the kids were sleeping or letting me sew)

I have to say that I am really proud of it!!! The front Material is a beige Corduroy, then a blue Paisley and then red Cord on the sides… and the same on the back…

28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Backpack purse on: March 31, 2007 09:22:56 PM
I couldn't find a backpack purse that fit my style and that I liked so I finally decided that I would just make one...

I found some Corduroy fabric at the thrift store and used less than half of it for the whole bag....

The Zipper was salvaged from an old backpack and so where the buckles (to adjust the straps)

I might add a pocket on the front or some embellishment but I am not sure yet...

It looks a little crooked but it is because I was too lazy to take my wallet etc out before I took pics... so it just hangs funny..

29  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Wrap pants... on: March 31, 2007 08:58:31 PM
I am pretty new around here and just wanted to share my first wearable project..

Here is a pair of Wrap Pants that I made about 2 weeks ago... I used the general idea from this pattern... but I made them longer and made the way it ties different... (I hate following patterns)

(sorry about the smudge in the mirror Roll Eyes)
