2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / "My Country Doesn't Have That" Round 9 on: October 15, 2007 02:20:06 PM
Swap name: My Country Doesn't Have That - Round 9
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: dizzylizzy
Sign-up date range: October 15- November 15
Date to send item by: 2 weeks from claim

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): no
I must note, that, if that swap reaches 25 participants, I will have to put all new approvals on hold until I can get a co-organizer.
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? Obviously, no, this swap requires being able to send internationally
All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages but be aware of international shipping costs and get a parents permission, please.

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:
This round of MCDHT will be ongoing- this way, non-US swappers can choose to swap with other non-US swappers, and there is also the opportunity to swap more than once! The point is to send cool and fun items from different countries around the globe so we can all experience other cultures   Grin

You will be required to post a list of a minimum of 6 countries/regions (a region could include eg. Scandanavia, Australasia, or even Europe) you would like to receive from, along with some ideas of items you would be interested in getting (although there are no guarantees, this is just to give your partner an idea of what you would like).  You are required to put "Any other than my own" as a country choice - the key to this swap is flexibility.

Like the Ongoing Wish Swaps, this swap will be a chain, with each participant claiming the last person to post their country list. So, person A will post a list, person B will claim A, person C will claim B and so on.

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REPLY WITH YOUR STATUS WHEN YOU CLAIM SOMEONE!  This means you need to post who you are claiming and for what, how many claims you have made, including how many in transit and how many received, and your location/preferences/aversions.

*Non-US participants: if you are claimed by a US participant first time round, you will be able to opt out of receiving from a second US participant.  Remember, you can only opt out of receiving from the US if you have previously received from a US partner in this swap.  If you have not been claimed 48 hours after posting your info for the second time, you will have to lift the restriction in order to keep the swap moving.
*US Participants may consider listing what is different or specific about your area of the US so non-USers can know what you might have in addition to the much coveted kool-aid, shrinky dinks, and sharpies!

Due to the requirement for international shipping in this swap, there are limits on how many claims you can have outstanding.
Swap Newbies can have 1 claim outstanding
Established swapperscan have 2 claims outstanding
FOCs can have 3 claims outstanding

You have two weeks from the date you claim to send your package.

Swap packages NOT subject to size/weight restrictions - send as much as you can afford!  Hopefully, this will allow most people to send out twice without breaking the bank. Wink

You must get a receipt when you send - this is very important with this type of international swap. Also, YOU MUST PM THE ORGANIZER WHEN YOU SEND AND RECEIVE. This is crucial to keep the swap running smoothly!

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Japanese street fashion swap round 2? on: October 11, 2007 03:29:32 PM
All this talk of christmasy swaps is getting me thinking about all the parties and family get-togethers that require a little dressing up.

So I'm thinking it would be great to do another round of this swap, and give everyone the opportunity to have some new goodies to wear out.  Grin

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Advice for swappers wishing to avoid being flaked upon? on: October 10, 2007 09:58:50 AM
I have three swappers who have informed me that they are ready to send, but are uneasy about doing so since they haven't heard much from their partners.

*Both one swapper and I have not heard anything from her partner in over two weeks.
*Another swapper has not heard from her partner since the 22nd, but the partner has notified me she will be sending late, although she didn't give a timeline.
*Another swapper's partner has notified us that all of her projects are "planned and nearly ready" although that sounds a bit vague to me as well.

Do I just tell those who are ready to send to go ahead, and in the case they do end up flaked upon, find them angels later? Or should I advise them to wait to send until I get more definite information from their partners?

(Oh, and I think I should mention the send deadline was last Wednesday, Oct 3.)

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Summer is a time for new bags! on: July 15, 2007 05:12:44 PM
I've been making bags like crazy lately! Cheesy

First, is a totoro cut-out handle bag. It doesn't hold much, just a wallet and keys. But I usually don't carry much more than that anyway.

I used a crayon transfer technique to make the totoro, then I just hand-stitched it on

My sakura bag, with tied straps:

This one's not very big either, I think it's about 10" wide x 7" tall

Funky post office tote. The outer fabric had some really cool stitching already on it, and I used blue polka dot fabric for the inside. The bag also has pockets on the outside for pens:

An action shot to see how it hangs. (Sorry it's not very close up, that was the only mirror in the house, and you have to stand kinda far to get a full view.)

And this last one I made especially to use for my nurse aid class. I love how the fabric on the strap alternates between the outer and inner fabrics. Oh, and it also has outside pockets for pens, lotion, and a notepad.

I know the pictures are kinda blurry. A photographer I am not.  Cry
9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / singer 9010 issues on: July 04, 2007 09:05:05 AM
My ma  gave me her old sewing machine for my 20th birthday a while back. And I'm trying to make scrubs for my nurse aid class, but the thread keeps jamming and snapping off.

Here's the threading diagram, it keeps getting stuck somewhere around #4.

I don't know what's wrong! It's totally frustrating because I can only get about 1/2 an inch before the thread snaps.
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / shrinky dink issues on: June 12, 2007 06:11:23 PM
I've never used shrinky dinks before, but my bf's mom gave me a whole bunch of shrinky dink paper, so I figured I'd try. Well, I used crayola colored pencils, like everyone recommends, and I followed the instructions as well as i could (um, yeah, 1 to 5 minutes is a bit vague for baking time, especially since my oven doesn't have a little window)

But when I took them out and tried to put split rings on them after they cooled for 10 minutes, colored pencil residue keeps coming off onto my fingers. Did I do something wrong? Leave it in too long? Not long enough?

Please help!
