1  Sharpie on Lasagna Noodle! in Completed Projects by Gumption on: January 02, 2013 02:30:24 PM
Yup, it's just what the title might suggest.

My kids were "helping" me in the kitchen, and I was trying to get them out of my hair.  I gave them very old lasagna noodles to color on.  Regular markers worked much better than my attempt with Sharpies.  However, none of the girls' noodles lived to be photographed.  The other fun thing to do with the noodles included stomping them on the linoleum.

Happy New Year!

2  **Mee-Mee-Mee**(Bunsen and Beaker) in Completed Projects by Gumption on: May 30, 2012 01:34:25 PM
I made these for the Jim Henson Swap, but wanted to share.  I thought they were so cool!  They are wooden spoons with acrylic paint. No coating, so not really suitable for kitchen use.  I'm thinking of what other Muppets would be good on spoons or spatulas. Any ideas?

*******

Ha-ha! Enjoy!

Received from PhemBot!  She is AWESOME!

The whole shebang:

Her most intense craft:  Animal in Fimo:

Back-side:

Sweetums Charm: (BTW, it's so hard to find anything with Sweetums!  THANK YOU!)

Animal with his new favorite friend, the Bantha!

the funniest part is we sent the same stickers!
And, she sent little board books for my littlest one, and an Animal Pez for the oldest!
I couldn't've asked for a better swap partner!  Thanks, PhemBot!

Was inspired by this and made one for my boyfriend yesterday! Added some pipe cleaner to the "stems".

Those came out beautifully! Like the green stem additions!

THANKS, KITTYKILL!  Here are some pictures of my awesome package!
The most awesome, necessary framed picture for my guest bathroom:

In use:

She also included an extra teatowel:  I love, love, love Flour Sack towels.  And owls.  That rhymes!  And my 7-month-old daughter already used it.  Sorry for the stains already.

Close-ups of the happy and angry owls:

This was an awesome swap!  Thanks for everybody being so friendly and communicative.  Great crafts, too!

I sent to Mandys_Momma, but she can't upload pics right now.  So, here are the 2 colored pencil drawings I did for her.  She said she liked pigs and nature, so this is what I chose.  Each picture is about 9x12 inches, and took quite a few hours.
Together:

I can't wait to see everybody else's crafts!

9  "Melissa and Doug" Earring Holder in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Gumption on: July 20, 2011 04:28:27 PM
So, I have a daughter who gets some awesome toys from the family, some of which are from "Melissa and Doug."  The hippie, wooden toy-makers of the genre.  They always have these awesome wooden toy holders that are cool, and shouldn't ever be thrown away, so I don't.  ("Justifying your hoarding instincts...")

I also just took out my gauges, so I could wear cool earrings now.  I needed an earring holder.  Just like everyone else!

Here is the "Before.'

Then I added some scrapbook paper I've been hoarding for years:

Then I added some Screening from our Sliding Screen Door that I had to fix because the Dog has now learned how to open the door by biting a hole in the screen.  And some trim because the Hot Glue made a mess:

I added some paper as the backing to make it prettier.  And hot-glued the hanger onto the paper.

The final picture, with a couple of earrings:

I know everyone has made jewelry holders, but I was proud I got to use this Melissa and Doug box.  Finally!

Enjoy!

10  Quilted Bird Mobile (with mini-tute) in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Gumption on: June 30, 2011 09:56:10 AM
First off, the finished project:

With close-ups:

These birds are cotton fabric with 2 layers of fleece in between to give them more "body."  I drew a bird shape, then zig-zag stitched all around, then cut out the finished "quilted" bird:

The hard part was getting them lined up on the strings, and then sewing them onto the strings so they would hang straight:

I used embroidery floss and beads to attach the birds.

I stuck the needle up from the bottom of the bird, between the fleece layers so you couldn't see the string.  It went in the bottom and out the top.  To find these spots, I stuck a needle through the top, near the middle and then let the string dangle.  This is where the top and bottom insertion points would be. (Does that make sense?)

Then, I just tied the strings to a wooden embroidery hoop, and covered the hoop with left-over scraps from the birds.
Whew!  It took a while, but I think it was worth it in the end!
Let me know if you have questions.
