24  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Re: Wool Eater Blanket Crochetalong on: January 20, 2009 09:54:04 PM
Well, I'm pretty sure that the wool eater only uses two stitches, chain and what is written as double treble, which makes it triples all the way through, or yarn over twice.

So the first row would go from this:
1st row: * 5 chain, 4 double treble into ring, leaving all loops on hook, now pull wool through all 5 loops (1 cluny group made), 5 chain, slip stitch into ring. Rep from * 3 more times, (4 cluny groups made).

to this:
1st row: * 5 chain, 4 triple into ring, leaving all loops on hook, now pull wool through all 5 loops (1 cluny group made), 5 chain, slip stitch into ring. Rep from * 3 more times, (4 cluny groups made).

YOu might want to check out http://sarah-london.blogspot.com/2008/07/crochet-terminology.html as well
I can probably email the rest to you if it still doesn't make sense, but I'd like to get permission from the author of the pattern first  Smiley

If it helps, to 'translate' a crochet pattern from UK to USA you need to use the next stitch down. So if a UK pattern calls for a dc, it means sc.

So in a UK pattern

sc= slip stitch
dc= single crochet
htr= half double crochet
tr= double crochet
dtr= triple crochet
trtr= double triple crochet

Does this help at all?

27  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pattern lines showing through finished work? on: January 02, 2009 09:42:56 PM
If you haven't embroidered anything else of that piece you could try leaving it out in bright sunlight for a while, 'cause UV light tends to fade stuff

29  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Peacock Skirt cross-stitch (4 pics) on: December 11, 2008 10:57:37 PM
I finished this today and just had to post it!

It's called the peacock skit, and it's from the book 'Cross-stitch Art Nouveau' by Barbara Hammet. It's HUGE! I stitched over 2 on 25 count linen, which made it 14.5 inches by 9.5 inches

It's based on this Aubrey Beardsley painting

Since it's so big, it was hard to get a decent shot so here's a couple of close-ups

This is the skirt, which took forever and used something like two and a half skeins of DMC. Which is good, cause the pattern called for four skeins Shocked

I ripped out the face like four times till I got it right. I like blackwork, but the backstitch in this piece drove me nuts! I'm pretty sure that I place a lot of it wrong, but it looks okay to me so I'm leaving it  Tongue

Thanks for looking!
30  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Handmade book/journal swap on: December 11, 2008 07:21:18 PM
I think the earliest I can organise the swap would be February or March, cause that's when my second swap finishes. It is two swaps before you can organise right?
