1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Bride and Groom Day of the Dead Miniature Box (IMG heavy) on: January 04, 2012 04:46:52 PM
Okay, so ages ago my sister and I visted Mexico and she had her eye on some of the crafty boxed minatures that we saw in a lot of places. She didn't really have the money to spring for one so I fiiiinally got around to making her one for Christmas.

Its made out of that Crayola foam clay stuff (can't remember what its called), an old el paso taco box (accidentally themed - it was the first thing I saw that would work), some frabric scraps, acrylic paint, and lots and lots of glitter.

I made the figures removable so that she could get a closer look at their cute little costumes Wink

Close up of their rings (the diamond is a nail gem I glued to a small piece of wire I wrapped around my pliers)

Another close up of the rings (click to enlarge)

For a sense of the scale (click to enlarge)

The colours look a bit off since I hurredly took the pics against a white background and I had to adjust the colours

Smiley Crits and comments welcome!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Miniature Jersey Christmas Ornaments on: December 30, 2011 11:30:59 AM
Every year at our staff Christmas party I make ornaments for all of us who work at the small independant business at which I am employed. This year I made small jerseys with the first letter of the name of the business (and coincidentally the name of the boss/owner). On the back I put the year each of us started working there. (At the moment there are only four of us starting in 1981, 1994, 2004, & 2006). I picked jerseys since we all get along/work as a team etc etc. I'm not the most deft with fabric/sewing etc so I'm pretty happy how these turned out. Smiley

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Day of the Dead Watercolour Portrait on: November 05, 2011 08:59:28 PM
I've done a few of these watercolour stencil portraits based on this (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=301135.0) thread. I was inspired by some of the day of the dead art pieces floating around and decided to do some more of the stencil portraits and add some embellishments.

My sister and I.

Here is another stencil portrait based on the same photo to give an idea of what the picture looked like without the DOD details.

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Pilot Retirement Party Placecards [pic heavy-ish] on: October 07, 2010 02:58:50 PM
My dad just retired from his job as a commercial pilot this fall, and so for our family dinner I made little name card holders using each airline he has flown for during his many years in the air. They're about 4" x 2" (folded), made out of a single piece of card and painting using Derwent Inktense pencils. The wings and tails are cut out and folded up to give them a 3rd dimension. The cotton ball 'clouds' and name tags are removable, since I was considering framing the planes in shadow boxes as a nice reminder.

Thanks for looking! Smiley

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Peacock Shrinkydink Bracelet [img heavy with process pics] on: January 22, 2010 07:39:53 PM

So apparently I'm in a real shrinkydink phase hehe. I made a peacock bracelet today. (coloured with pencil crayons). The colours in the photo below arent as vibrant as they are in reall life, but whatcha gonna do? (besides learn how to use your camera better! lol) Here it is all finished and put together:

Blurry pic of it on:

The back of the completed piece, which I think actually looks cooler than the front Tongue (you can really see the difference if you go to the full size pic)

I've included a whole bunch of process pics 'cause I know how much I like to see how people get from point a to b in crafting Smiley

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / ShrinkyDink Squares Bracelet on: January 08, 2010 01:14:51 AM
I bought a packet of Shinky Dinks at Michael's a few days ago and decided to try make a bracelet. It was inspired by Etsy user kortadoodle's pendant.
Each square is about an inch per side. Really happy how this one turned out, considering I've never used Shrinky Dink before. (I tried making a pair of earrings after this, but I used non-permanent markers and they bled ALL OVER the place when I tried to glaze them Sad .. you live, you learn.. Wink)
