11  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Pilot Retirement Party Placecards [pic heavy-ish] on: October 07, 2010 02:58:50 PM
My dad just retired from his job as a commercial pilot this fall, and so for our family dinner I made little name card holders using each airline he has flown for during his many years in the air. They're about 4" x 2" (folded), made out of a single piece of card and painting using Derwent Inktense pencils. The wings and tails are cut out and folded up to give them a 3rd dimension. The cotton ball 'clouds' and name tags are removable, since I was considering framing the planes in shadow boxes as a nice reminder.

Thanks for looking! Smiley

Recipes I sent (4x6 laminated recipe cards, unless otherwise requested) - I ended up sending out 9 recipes to each person, as I had picked specific ones to cater to their individual tastes and after going through the trouble of hunting specific recipes down and typing them up, I figured that even if they didn't like a particular ingredient in the recipe, they could easily substitute it for another ingredient /omit it.

*Dutch Pancakes
*Wild Mushroom Risotto
*Moong and Masur Lentil Curry
*Chicken Curry
*Smashed Spiced Chickpeas
*White & Orange (drink recipe)
*Quick Marinated Red Snapper Salad
*Moorish Crunch Salad
*Taglierini with a Simple Sweet Tomato Sauce and Shrimp

These are all recipes that I cook quite often and are (to my palate) DELICIOUS .. I hope eveyone enjoys them.

I also sent along three extras in each package - A recipe divider, a measurement converter, and a liquid measurement converter that will stick to a fridge/metallic surface for easy reference Wink

Here are some pictures of the recipes I sent - I haven't had a chance to make any of the ones I received, but I will post pictures when I have them!

Moorish Crunch Salad

Thanks so much guys - I'm glad the tutorial was understandable! Cheesy

amylouwho93 (and anyone else who has done this project) I would love to see your versions - it would be awesome if you could post a picture (or a link to one) in this topic ! I wouldn't have thought to use silver sharpie (even though I have one!) on the band. What a great idea.

20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Fake Cakes? on: April 28, 2010 10:17:32 PM
I dont know what kind of lighting you're using, or how handled your cakes are going to be, but definitely keep in mind what heat may do to the fondant if you were to actually go that route...

As for fake, you may want to see if you like the look of covering whatever you use with a thin layer of cornstarch (or something) to mimic the look of fondant.
good luck!
