11  Hats at markets & Carded earrings/bows- how to display? in Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs by TwistMySister on: July 19, 2012 09:05:15 PM
Hi all, Im doing my 2nd market (hoping it goes as good as the first) and am wondering how to display my hats and fascinators? I dont really want to spend anymore money at the moment as am saving for a holiday. How would you do it? Previously I displayed them on a cabinet and on the table, but i will be making maybe 10 or more, and have no idea where to put them?

Also - bows and earrings, they take up so much room on the table - I envision them hole punched and then hanging on hooks or nails on a board of some kind, but how to make it?? And how to make it stand up if im not against a wall??

Oh, and it's a Polka Dot Vintage market, so something that has an old world feel to it would be also cool if you have any ideas?? I have also previously displayed 3 pieces on top of a sewing machine case.

Ack, wish I was good at carpentry  Undecided

12  Fascinator/Head piece SWEET ..& all things nice! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by TwistMySister on: July 17, 2012 06:36:31 AM
Hi all!

Here is a head piece i made not long ago.... It is made up of cupcake fabric, sinamay and a hot pink satin lining with a hair barrette attached inside.

I made the cupcakes and icing swirls, bows and everything else on top was found in my stash Smiley I hand sewed it all and glued on the toppings  Tongue It was really fun and creative and i want to make more varied ones... since i have so many cakes left!!! What do you think? Would a different shape or theme make it more interesing?

Hope you enjoy  Wink thanks for looking!

13  Leopard print pillbox hat in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by TwistMySister on: July 14, 2012 09:56:08 PM
Hi all  Smiley something i have gotten into lately again is hat making and head wear, fascinators and the like... Here is something Im pretty proud of at the moment. A satin leopard print pillbox hat, with rose and pearl accent and feathers, with netting. Ignore the price tag sorry!! This is one of the only pics i have taken of it, and it was after a market show.

I made it using sinamay and shapewell. Although it can be made with many things like plastic containers or cardboard boxes. Hats should not get wet anyway as they lose their shape, so you dont need to worry about water proofing your cardboard, although covering with packing tape would make it stronger!! I just made up the pattern and size, according to what i think looked right. Then cut it out in fabric and the other materials and stitched the leopard pieces together, then lined it in a light gold colour satin and hand sewed it into the inside base. I then hand sewed and glued the extras on top.

Hope you like! Thanks so much for looking, any questions feel free to ask!!  Wink

14  Family frame and statue - Day of the Dead in Completed Projects by TwistMySister on: July 11, 2012 03:53:06 AM

Here is a frame I made and a statue I re-conned. The lady was a really bland statue i found in an op shop, along with this frame. I covered the back piece of the frame in a jacquard type fabric, which I embroidered to say 'mi familia' - my family. Which is me, my boyfriend and our parrot. I made the skeleton family out of clay and painted them. The lady i just painted over her features. I like buying old religious statues and painting them DOTD style  Grin

15  Bird Bed/Hammock for parrots in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by TwistMySister on: July 11, 2012 03:37:50 AM
Here is a couple pics of a bed that I made my bird Petey  Smiley He is a medium sized parrot, a sun conure. I let him choose the fabrics, the inside is fluffy and really colourful, like him. The outside fabric is blue with anchors, the base has a rectangle of plastic inserted inside to keep it's shape but it has gone a bit droopy, it doesnt seem to phase him. Maybe in summer i will make it more triangle shape and less hammock-y if it gets too hot!

Thanks for looking  Wink

19  Teacup candles and Alice in Wonderland coasters I made in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by TwistMySister on: June 27, 2012 04:15:46 AM
Hi so i havent really posted much on things i have made over my craftster years, so here's a start  Smiley I made these not long ago for a vintage market stall I did, 2 out of 3 tea cup candles sold and I only have a couple coasters left out of about 17... it was fun making them. It was a good recycling project..

The teacups were found in opshops for $1-$4 each. The candles also from the opshop never used so I smashed the wax, melted it and used the wicks that were inside  Wink

The coasters from wood panels pre-cut and the pictures from old kids story books - different versions of Alice. The coloured coasters were my fave but sadly no pics they were sold!  Cheesy

Thanks for looking hope it inspires you in some way!  Grin
