21  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: Decreased Activity on Craftster? on: July 01, 2016 11:36:27 PM
I knew there had to be people talking about this! Glad I found the thread and learned it's not just me feeling that way ... and at the same time, sucks it's actually noticed by many, as it has to be true.

I wonder if Etsy has something to do with this as well - many people might be putting lots of time and effort into trying to make their hobby a self-supporting one or even make a living with their talent and it leaves them with less time and energy to share their work and admire others', here. I know I lost lots of steam that way ... but I always browse and come back here. It's such a great community and helps me remember, I'm not an only crafty weirdo Cheesy - there's more Out There. I just hope there will always be enough to keep this place going!

26  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Science Birthday Party! on: June 30, 2016 09:33:59 PM
My 8 yo decided she really wants to have a science themed party this year.
I love theme parties and especially such a great one - not any of that Disney stuff, but science! Haa!

So, we needed:

*disposable medical coats - to protect clothing and customize with sharpies
*silly glasses and felt moustaches - cause silly!
*Special Einstein wig for the Bday girl
*beakers - for juice
*test tubes - to fill with candies and to take home
*test cups {with biohazard stickers}- to put their glue goo in
*Pinjata - a quick red test tube with bubble wrap "foam" sticking out
*Photo props - Elements table (with an extra element - the Bday kid's name!), rat, test tube and Einstein's hair
*Fun facts decor - Einstein's and Hawking's quote
*petri dishes-  to take some wonderful little tetanus and salmonella viruses home - gotta have gifts! Cheesy

Progress video of one of the drawings:

and we also needed supplies, such as:

*white glue - for goo making
*Borax - to mix with glue to get goo
*baking soda - to mix with vinegar to fill balloons with gas
*Balloons - to fill said gas with
*Empty water bottles - to put the vinegar and baking soda in
*Vinegar - to mix with baking soda to get gas
*Dry ice - to add to juice for cool icy effect

Look at the balloons filling up:

- cause, you know - nobody can be uncheered with a balloon! -
(you should've heard the squealing and giggling, that the balloon trick caused- such excitement!)

Everyone had a blast and the experiments with basic household items were a huge hit, so was the dry ice Smiley
(and I had a lot of fun making stuff for the party - if only I could get someone to run the show, that day, too, we'd be all set Cheesy)

27  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Strange Doll Swap Gallery on: June 30, 2016 08:02:32 PM
Petskin's photos of Rusty are way better than mine! Yes, I made the mushrooms. They are polymer clay. The eyes are beads that I layered more polymer clay on to make.

You can use the photos anywhere you want, if you ever wish to do so!
And the photos can only show the awesomeness, that was already created! I keep showing him off and everyone is amazed!

(I'll message you soon, this day seems to never end- just got back from beach/park/martial art class and need to feed the kids and set up their sleep-over stuffs)

And please do make a post about Rusty - he is glorious!

Don't you love it, when something you never knew, you needed, pops into your life and you just love it to pieces.
It's got my fav things incorporated- shrooms, moths and it's distressed with awesome!

This is the story of my doll ☺

It's absolutely perfect - even if I had to design a more perfect doll, I wouldn't be ableto come up with something I'd love more - and my kids have been ooh'ing and aah'ing this whole time, too.
(And I thought my doll was cute -oops!)

I love everything about it - the wig stitches, the mushrooms! (Did you make them?) The eyes! (What are they?). The whimsical quirky-cute face is the best! And the jute-wrapped feet .... SO MUCH to love! He will definitely have the best spot on my craft room shelf. Why can't I have crafty friends like that in my neighborhood!?
(Glad I can have them here)

So, here's the cutie!

Thank you sooooooo much, PerfectlyBohemian! I couldn't love him more, even if I tried Smiley

(...NOW I gots anxiety, cause my little thingamajing wasn't nearly as gran! Eep!)
(I'm posting on my phone, so I hope the pics are good enough)

ETA: finally got back home and was able to read your card [having a crazy busy day here]
- loved the description - and OMG you made the shroomies! You talented you! And the eyes are beads- how clever! I love how beautiful and colorful they are.
(And I love how you wrote all the info about the details - I need to start doing that, I really need to carve out more time for swaps as this one was just beyond awesome!)

so- lovelovelove everything you made (will post the badge soon too!) for me - THANK YOU!
