1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / a fan of knitting? warm up winter! on: July 30, 2007 05:17:45 PM
hey guys,

a long, long time ago, there was a post very similar to this one. but since that one has passed on to a very peaceful place somewhere within the zillions of craftster posts, i thought i may as well begin a new one Smiley

so, as you most likely do not know, i have created a charity/program/whatever, called warm up winter. it's based out of halifax, nova scotia, and this is how it works: basically, we're looking for knitted squares 5"x5". when we collect enough of these knit squares, we sew them all together to make wonderful blankets. it takes 60 of these squares though; thus, it takes some people a bit of a while to be able to make one blanket themself.

HOWEVER THOUGH, considering the huge amount of talent i've seen in this forum, i think that it would probably take you craftsters a jiffy to create these squares. and Warm Up Winter doesn't stop at just those little squares; oh no. WUW also accepts hats, mittens, slippers, scarfs, socks...you name (or knit) it.

once we have collected enough of these blankets and other winter accessories, we pass them onto other organizations which help homeless people, and people living in poverty.

if this explanation is a bit sketchy, theres a bit more info at our [old-school myspace] website, www.myspace.com/warmupwinter. it would be superb if you could visit, or drop us a line, or even go as far as becoming our friend Smiley

thanks so much for reading this novel, and don't hesitate to pm/email me if you have any questions!

ps-this same topic is posted in the knitting section, and if your familiar with PRD, it's posted there as well!

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Question on skirt style on: April 11, 2007 03:49:36 AM
i was just wondering about these skirts at AE.

are they just circle skirts? and how do you think they have the waistband like? is it buttons, or zipper, or just elastic..?

thanks Smiley

4  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / i like to walk in these. on: April 04, 2007 05:01:22 PM
these were made from a second hand wool sweater, fake vans, and lots of staples.

they are so warm, even if they do look like big socks.

don't ask about why i was taking pictures in the bathroom...cause i don't even know.

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / malagash on: March 24, 2007 06:07:24 PM
so, for a youth retreat in february, i needed a bag to take all my stuff on the bus.

so, after i moved my sewing machine onto the floor in front of the tv so i could try to finish watching the second season of lost before i left, i came up with this.

inspired by yakpak:

with a few grandma touches.

not sure if it's visible or not, but theres a band around the top, with pleats (i think theres 4 on each side). the bottom of the bag looks a bit messed up in this picture, but thats just cause theres stuff in it. the straps are also a bit weird looking, they're actually a lot wider, but it's just cause i've been grabbing it so tightly lately.

to sum it all up:

this bag is huge.
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / ahoy! on: March 24, 2007 05:57:33 PM
mhmmmmm.

so here's my take on the nautical theme.

just a beach tote, made with canvas & blue-white striped fabric, plus a nice little anchor stencil.

i've worn it out though, i need to fix it in a couple of places.

really really bad picture.

annnd detail:

so what do you think?
