1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / The Goldern Compass on: December 07, 2007 11:13:24 PM
I went to see The Golden Compass tonight.  "Lyra" wore alot of knitted goods and most of them seemed to be Lion brand.  Did anyone else notice this???  BTW, great series of books and I was impressed the movie  stuck to the book.. people who hadn't read the series were mad at the ending, I chuckled,  that just means there is more to come  Cheesy
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Toy recalls and the handmade christmas... on: October 02, 2007 07:20:31 PM
I was wondering if any of you are more inclined to not buy toys this year because of the recall and what is on your list if you are making your own toys.

The following list is for us fellow craftsters to find ideas on what to make for Christmas for our kids.  It is brainstormed by the crafty genius' on this board.

No plastic Rainbows under my tree list

Felt board with letters and shapes, etc
Unfinished wood blocks (1/2 moon, triangles, squares, etc)
doll diapers, clothes and a sling
wooden doll furniture
books
wooden trains
pretend play clothes
experiences (zoo pass, musical, airshow)
hackey sacks
beanies
Kits, drawing, model car, etc
wooden cut outs of family and places he goes
http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/buildmodel/feature/famf0200dollhouse/famf0200dollhouse.html..anyone see the cardboard stove another craftster made.. find it.. it rocks..

Bath Paints;  you just divide liquid soap into small containers and tint them with food colouring.

Foam Bath Toys;  get some of that craft play foam and cut shapes out of it to use in the bath, they can stick to the walls of the tub.

back pack with compartments for little cars and trucks and a mat out of fabric with roads.

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Ideal knitting box? on: September 26, 2007 10:07:03 PM
My brother and I have been making jewelry boxes for a while now.. nothing fancy but the top add pictures/decorations.. so I said to him that I would LOVE to design the ideal knitting box.

My ideas are...

big enough to fit a skein of yarn in with a hole in the side.

where we normally put the pictures and such we put the knitting needles for storage.  The box would also have rulers on the top of the lid for gauging.  I was also thinking of a needle gauge just in case you didn't have one with you.  The box could hold a small project...

It is made out of wood and would be meant for at home/in the car projects.. think like a tackle box sans the tray in this case.. or I can even do a tray.. suggestions?? Discuss....

4  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / In the market for a new sewing machine, please help... on: June 30, 2007 04:48:17 PM
OK, first of ll let me start by saying that Currently own four sewng machines but they were all inherited.  They each have there little quirks.. or they are the cheapest model and maybe not the best at sewing. My price range is about $5-600.00.. I am thinking that  I would like it to be able to do some monogramming and basic things such as that and I would love tons of different stitches.. just cuz.  If it does/doesn't have these features it's OK but can anyone recommend a sewing machine to me??? I'd like o not hae to cuss at it for a few weeks

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Need fabric help on: January 13, 2007 01:56:10 PM
OK I need ideas.  I was wondering if any of you have really cute fabric a link not the actual fabric) that I could sew a blanket for my 1.5 month old.  I would use it to make a valance etc.. out of as well.  Her room is a dark raspberry (leaning to the purple side) on the main wall and accent in a cream pink (reminds me of raspberry creme in a chocolate) for the other three walls.  I can't post a picture of it cuz 1. I wouldn't ever get the color to show right on the digi and 2. It would also have to be totally painted and we just put on the base coat.

I went to Jo Ann's today and Hobby Lobby and I didn't find the "It".. the window sits on a lighter colored wall and is the only one in the room so I am thinking that patterned would be great.  I would also like a fabric that would grow with her.. no baby stuff.    Your ideas would be much loved.

PS I can knit and I can sew.. if that helps.

6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / My sister's polymer clay on: July 26, 2006 09:28:47 PM
my sister has worked with Polymer clay for years.  She currently makes beads for a jewelry designer. These have a cutesy theme to them but she is SO detailed with all of her things.. no finger prints, etc...this is a very small sample of her talents and doesn't really do justice to her work.. but

Details of swap:
We will be doing   recipe swaps about every month.  Each new swap will have a new theme.  Chicken, Beef , Pasta, Dessert, etc.. You will send three recipes for the selected genre.  The craft part to this  will be decorating the card.  YOU WILL NOT SEND RECIPES OUT  ELECTRONICALLY.  All cards must be on a large index card, They are 5x8 in size. The large index cards are so everything is uniform from one swap to the next. When you send out the recipes cards make sure your crafts name and state is in the corner.. you know.. From the Kitchen of... I think it gives it that retro flare. ( and Yes, you can just cut out a card from CARDSTOCK, as long as it is the same size)

When we hit all the areas of recipes we will do a swap to make a holder for them.  I guess this is on going but I will start a new swap each month to keep things straight.  That way if you don't want to sign up or you want to sit out a month you can and others can join in.

So, basically three decorated Recipe cards (with recipes) on a large index card

A  side note: I seem to have forgotton that getting a DC# is costly postage wise so I changed this to:
If your card doesn't arrive within one week of "send date"   you will be required to resend the recipes (Thank you Stifflersmom)

THIS SWAP WILL BE DESSERTS

there was an odd number of swappers and a couple of you are vegan and near vegan since I have recipes for that (I used to be near vegan) then I signed on for that one, too.  You don't have to send cards to me.  I just wanted to be fair to you.

9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / First time posting project.. my Jean Pool quilt..picture up on: March 07, 2006 09:02:07 PM
A Co-workers little boy passed away after a horrible disease.  To raise money people at work all donated a pair of blue jeans and I made this quilt.  It is a queen size and has 34 different pairs of blue jeans on  it (though it takes 17 to make one and I still have a trunk full of blue jeans).. I am happy to say that it raised 650.00

10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / I need help from someone in the UK on: January 21, 2006 08:42:32 PM
There is a knitted monkey "kit" that seems to only be sold in the UK.  To pay for the kit and the cost of shipping to the U.S. it ends up running around 35.00..and that's a little crazy for a little knitted monkey.  I threw out the following offer to the lady at the store but she wouldn't separate the pattern from the kit.

So, I am asking if someone  from the UK can  help me (PM me)  I only want the pattern.  I would pay for the kit.  You could email me the pattern and have a free monkey.  The kit comes with the yarn, the pattern, a heart and some stars to stuff inside.  I think it even comes with the stuffing...  I have Paypal..

Thank you so much!

I love monkeys!
