221  no spam, please in Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: September 11, 2008 03:12:41 PM
My son, being a true geek, doesn't like spam in his email.  So I tried to come up with a little humor for him about spam.  It won't make it go away, but at least he'll be able to chuckle about it.

I just took a chunk of wood and hollowed it out.  Then I cut out the symbol on the front and painted the whole thing.  And yes, that's a real can of spam in there.

222  my garden 2008 in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: September 10, 2008 04:22:53 PM
Some of the produce from my garden.

We have delicata squash and some chiles, elephant garlic, honey gold apples, beefsteak tomatoes, and walla walla sweet onion, California wonder bell peppers, lemon cucumbers, and saucy tomatoes (these are related to romas), jalapenos, gold nugget tomatoes, italian prune plums, sugar snap peas and half runner green beans.

What we didn't get in the picture is my red bells, and butternut and acorn squashes.  It's been a very good growing season.  The red bells are almost seven inches long.  I'll post pics when they turn.

Ok, so everybody going back to school needs a notebook of some sort.  Here's my version.

224  Even my garden is crafty in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: August 30, 2008 03:30:33 PM
I went out to pick tomatoes today and found this little devil in my garden.

My garden makes art.

225  Re: Postcard Swap Round 6 in The Swap Gallery by pinokeeo on: August 25, 2008 08:34:36 PM
Ok, I have received all of my cards.

Here are the photos.

First, I received two cards from PlumCrafty, one store bought and one bought but reconstructed.
The first one was the Cutty Sark in Greenwich

And this one was a simple abstract.  She added puff paint flowers, a travel sticker, and a small scene at the bottom.

Next, I received from Ane a photo of a Norwegian bay

And my last card was from Nicolatte.  This one may end up being historic in some way.  It is a photo of the Vancouver BC skyline, but it's dated 2010 for the Olympic winter games.

Thanks, Ladies for a wonderful swap.  I love them all.

226  My green beans are taking over my life! in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: August 20, 2008 06:41:38 PM
Here is a sample of the green beans coming from my garden this year.

I have to pick them almost every day now.  I have already processed 21 pints.

227  occasional tables in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by pinokeeo on: August 17, 2008 05:00:38 PM
I went to a tent sale and they had these table legs for 25 cents each.  I bought all four of them.

Then I went dumpster diving at my local cabinet shop and found some half inch birch plywood.  So I cut it to the size of the table leg frame, and drilled some holes along the edges.

Then I added some paint and some butterflies from an old calendar.

Then I took some zip ties and attached the table tops to the frames.  I finished the whole project with some polyurethane finish.

And now I have some cutesy occasional tables.  They came in handy this weekend for our outdoor deck party.  And they stack very nicely for storage.

228  Re: Jar of Mini Whimsies Round 2 Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by pinokeeo on: July 09, 2008 09:50:52 AM
My jar of whimsies from Lmcbride

The decorated jar

Everything that was in it.  There was a lot of stuff.

My favorites, a disney dancer, a wood top, a giraffe, rainbow earrings, a miniature painted rainbow canvas, a red frog, a paper doll teddy bear with two outfits and a football, a sunburst made from a bottle cap and some christmas lights in resin, a very tiny cuckoo clock, colorful wood beads, an embroidered dragonfly, a little black cat charm, four turtle charms, two polymer clay beads, and a bleached piece of coral.

Thanks Lorraine.  You're awesome.

229  Re: my garlic in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: July 06, 2008 04:44:56 PM
This is what it looked like when it was growing.

We actually open roasted it on our barbeque.  We split the head into some very large cloves, then just tossed them onto the grill.  They get hard on the outside, and very soft and tender on the inside.

230  my garlic in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by pinokeeo on: July 06, 2008 03:43:58 PM
I just dug up my first head of garlic.  It measures four and a half inches across.

We roasted it, and it was delicious.
