1  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Fairy Tour 2014 on: July 05, 2014 11:22:43 PM
For the past 4 years I've built fairy houses on my property and people come and wander and poke and look. Here are photos from this years set up...

We have a little mailbox attached to an old maple tree. The fairies leave personalized mail for the kiddos that visit.

There is always extra smudged mail at the house so no kids are disappointed if there isn't mail waiting for them.

These little cocooned babies were a BIG hit with the kids who visited today. They were sleeping quietly in old mossy tree stumps.

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A Quiet Hare Altered Spool on: July 01, 2014 11:05:25 AM
I created this spool for Cackle in the altered spool swap.

The trims and leaves are from Tresors de Luxe and the base is a 2" Wooden Spools and 3" Candlestick Holder from Alpha Stamps. I made the hare from paperclay Smiley
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Squadron Commander Lord Flashheart *Woof!* on: June 14, 2014 02:39:01 PM
I was absolutely gutted and completely heartbroken when Rik Mayall died last week. I'd had a half finished doll sitting around my studio for two years, he started out as a wrestler, was going to be a swashbuckler, but after Rik's death I knew immediately he was going to be Squadron Commander Lord Flashheart from Blackadder.

"Mind if I use your phone? If word gets out I'm missing, five hundred girls will kill themselves. And I wouldn't want them on my conscience, not when they ought to be on my *face*! Hello? Cancel the state funeral, tell the king to stop blubbing, Flash is not dead! I simply ran out of juice! And before five hundred girls all go 'oh, what's the point in living any more?' I'm talking about petrol! Woof! Send someone along to pick me up. General Melchett's driver will do, she hangs round with a big knob so she'll be used to a fellow like me. Woof!"

Flashheart wasn't my favourite Mayall character, but he'll be appropriate for snuggling and consoling my soppy tears while I watch the Young Ones or Bottom or Drop Dead Fred  Cry

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Hedwig-ish Harry Potter Mail Owl! on: June 01, 2014 05:21:35 PM
I think that this is the greatest 5 minute craft in the history of the world! I saw a plastic owl at the dollar and I KNEW it was really a mail owl. A quick coat of white paint, a print out Harry's Hogwarts letter and BAM! in 5 minutes you've got yourself a mail owl!

I know he's not EXACTLY like Hedwig, but I think for the $2 and 5 minutes this took he's a pretty close relative Smiley

Here's what he looked like before...

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Godefroy's Books on: May 27, 2014 11:12:16 AM
When I was asked if I'd like to participate in a local fundraiser this year by getting my fairy on I gave an enthusiastic YES! Inspired by the Urban Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor, Horizons.ca is adding fairy stops on their Annual Home and Garden Tour. I've created a little bookshop for book loving fairies (which really means all of them, because all fairies love books, even goblins) which will be displayed inside a local independent book shop.

The piece measures around 11" x 8.5"... the size of a regular sheet of paper. The base is a book shaped box that someone just happened to give to me recently. Timing is everything!

The shop window with "Godefroy's New, Used & Rare Books ~Specializing in fairy tales~"

A peek through the window...

The tiny sign can be turned to say "Open".

I made over 470 of those little books, about half made it into the shop. They all open. I had planned to leave them loose so that they could be moved around... but realized that was probably unrealistic and they'd get knocked around and fall over.

I've created the space so that wee faux tealights can be easily placed inside to flicker in the windows.

Inside there are portraits of a few of the authors that I love dearly: JK Rowling, Roald Dahl, Margaret Atwood, Hans Christian Andersen, Edward Gorey, Lewis Carroll, Maurice Sendak, Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Munsch and Beatrix Potter can all be found inside.

And that's it!

6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Wee Mad Hatter Hats with bonus "This Way/That Way" signpost on: May 23, 2014 06:36:50 AM
I'm planning a Mad Hatter's Tea Party this summer so when I was charged with creating a 'birthday party' themed something for Petaloo (who make the MOST amazing paper flowers BTW) I thought I'd get a head start and make some little Mad Hatter Hats!

AND I made a little 'This Way/That Way' sign to go along with them.

AND if you want to make your own there's a downloadable template on my blog HERE

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Leon's Window on: May 19, 2014 06:54:41 PM
Leon, The Professional is one of my very favourite movies. I stumbled across it last week and have been playing it on heavy rotation ever since. Inspired by the Luc Besson movie I made this mini...

It measures 5" tall and is built upon a Graphic 45 matchbox

The inside slides out...

... for a better look at the interior.

Inside is a Madonna, bullet marked wall and two quarts of milk.

This is the apartment it is based on. That's the gorgeous Jean Reno who is very manly and has the most magnificent voice.

AND while I was drafting the little milk cartons I was looking for dummy text and started putting in quotes from the film. I ended up making this milk carton too...

... it's 6.25" tall and covered in images, quotes, facts from the film and I think it's probably one of the coolest things I've ever made  Cool There's a pdf file on my blog if you want to download it and create your own HERE
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / The Evil Dead Altered Altoid Tin on: April 21, 2014 08:01:53 AM
I love horror movies. My absolute fave is The Evil Dead 2. I made this tin to declare my love.

The trees are made with bits of wire and moss. The house is made from card and paper and little bits of wood.

When you open her up there's a chained up cellar door...

... and there is dear old Cheryl locked up tight!

9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / "Let me think" mixed media steampunk sign on: April 04, 2014 06:43:09 AM
I created this piece for Graphic 45 with their Typography line (which I LOVE).

The base is a Walnut Hollow Innkeeper Signboard to which chipboard gears, and a slew of bits and bobs have been applied.

The little burnt out lightbulbs were found at the bottom of a box of junk we bought at auction last year. SEE there is a reason to keep absolutely everything!

The gears are chipboard pieces from Gina's Designs which have been painted with copper paint and then distressed.

The "Let me think" is from a vintage kid's book that I tear into on a semi regular basis.

A complete supply list is available on my blog  Kiss
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Cutesy birdhouse to shabby chic abode redo on: March 27, 2014 01:09:14 PM
My neighbour gave me this cute house thing-a-ma-bob to play with a while ago and it has been sitting for ages waiting for some attention. Petaloo asked me if I would like to guest design for them and I said "yes!" (duh!) and they send along some Marion Smith papers that just begged to be used on this redo project...
