1  Re: Help with Reading a Pattern! in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by MLJHydro on: May 01, 2008 03:08:34 PM
another thing nap can refer to is a pattern that has a top and bottom. If you were making a dress with rocket ships, you'd want to make sure all the little ships were flying upwards, it can be embarrassing to have one (or all) panels upside down.

This fabric has no nap because pretty much any way you turn it it will look the same

2  Gerard Way and iZombie shirts in Stenciling: Completed Projects by MLJHydro on: May 01, 2008 12:13:25 PM
I have a friend who is a big fan of My Chemical Romance, specifically Gerard Way, the singer. I've wanted to do something special for her for a while now and I found a picture of him on which someone had drawn a wing. I manipulated it in Gimp until I should use it as a stencil. The legs cut off about mid-thigh and I didn't just want it to end suddenly so I used lyrics from House of Wolves which I thought were appropriate for the picture and my friend. (She really is an angel.)

If I were to do it again I would use opaque white fabric paint instead of white acrylic with fabric medium. It took about 3 layers to get anywhere near the lightness I wanted and it all ended up a bit blotchy.

Everyone in the costume shop was awesome and didn't say anything about the shirt to my friend. She screamed when I gave it to her.

I just finished doing hair and makeup (and costume) for a short student zombie film. All the rest of the crew has at least 3 zombie shirts each and I didn't have one. So, while I was waiting for some of the actors to come for their life casts I made this.
I stole the idea from the internet, many people have done this before. I found a zombie silhouette on google and drafted the iPod. I shrank down a brain picture and cut a bite out of it to replace the apple logo.
The white paint had the same problems as the previous shirt.
