21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / OMG I LOVE This Bag and I made it!!!! -ME :) on: March 20, 2010 11:00:58 AM
Ok so I made this bag a few months ago but just now have time to finally post it, I still LOVE IT! So here's the intro story -  I clean houses for a living (I have my own business, just me and about 13 clients but I love it-for the most part) and I could NEVER find a bag big enough with enough pockets. I have to carry tons of supplies and I would find cheap bags at Wal-Mart and try to make them work but they never really did so one day I was really frustrated and just sat down and decided to make my own. I completely winged it and am totally surprised it all came together just how I wanted! That almost NEVER happens! I'm completely impatient when it comes to sewing. I wanted to make it out of a thick fabric like canvas but all I had on hand was denim (from a different failed project) so I used that. I based the pocket design off the bag I already had.....so here it is!!!

22  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Recycling Cards -- Good or Bad idea? on: February 18, 2010 09:06:30 PM
Okay I have a question to throw out there for all you crafty peeps Smiley
I wanted to get a feel for this proposal before doing it in case it was considered taboo.....
For a few years now I've saved every card ever given to me and I have a shoebox now overflowing with cards. A thought came to me the other day why not upcycle them and reuse them? Now of course it would depend on where the giver wrote on the card and such but I thought I could glue new card stock on the inside of the card and voila new card. Is that a bad idea? Do you think anyone would get hurt if they found that they received an reused card? Of course I'll save the ones that mean a lot to me and I plan on scanning them all in and creating a scrapbook of cards eventually but I just wanted to get everyone's feelings on this idea. Thanks for all your help!
23  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 47 ENTRIES / I LOVE SHOPPING! Reusable Shopping Bag from Repurposed Materials - Lot O Pics! on: February 01, 2010 05:45:27 PM
Ok so I thought I'd better enter this now before I keep seeing amazing entries and get discouraged Smiley
This is my first contest entry and when I saw what this month's contest was I knew right away what I wanted to do!!
Ya know when you buy pillows, new sheets, blankets, etc... they come in those plastic sometimes zippered bags. Well I just can never throw them away! This year my DH and I got new pillows for Xmas so I saved the plastic bags in my to use someday bin.

This bag is made using one of those plastic bag covers. I saved the zipper for future use someday.....
It's about the size of a paper bag and about the same shape. I used only what I had on hand to make the bag and was rapidly running out of thread. I think I cleaned out every spool and bobbin I had so there are probably at least 5 different colors of thread holding this together! But I think it adds to the look a bit. I straight stitched and zig zag stitched to make it more durable. I added a thick cardboard base so it would be sturdier. And after finishing it, it looked so boring so I raided my magazine stash and I collaged the front and back of the bag with random words from magazines. The words all have something to do with shopping, reusing, recycling etc... The words were taped on first with just ordinary scotch tape and then protected and covered with packing tape. Enjoy!!!!!! Sorry so wordy Smiley

UPDATE: Some of my pics are lost and I am also in the process of moving pics so these are the only two I have of this project:

Thanks for looking!!!! Oh and I forgot to take a picture but it folds up just like a paper bag Smiley

24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My Wedding dress gets a simple but fab redo! on: January 08, 2010 10:41:58 PM
My hubby and I got married at the courthouse so I just picked a dress I loved (I love brown and I love polka dots) but I didn't realize until the big day how much the top of the dress bothered me. I really really wish I would've had something else or at least a cover up on that day. Looking back at the pictures I just really hate how low cut it was! So since that day it's just sat in my closet meaning to be worn on our anniversary but no matter what I did to it, nothing really worked. So it moved into my "to fix" pile where it sat and sat and sat. My original idea was to cut off the triangles and make it a straight across top (like a tube if that makes sense I am have the worst time thinking of what I am trying to say tonight!) but once I cut them off there just wasn't enough material there. (and believe me I hesitated a lot before cutting into that dress I mean that's my wedding dress, ya know?) So back it sat in the corner. Then I thought why dont' I just make it a skirt! So that's what I did! Easy Peasy Tongue

It could be worn high waisted with cute belt! Now to collect materials to make the perfect shirt for it before Sept. 15th (our 4th anniversary) so I can wear it! I'm imagining something cream, sleeveless and ruffley!!!

Okay sorry for all the wordiness!!! If you've survived here are the pics!

Sorry I don't have any before pics and I moved and edited all my pics so this is the only pic I have:

25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas tree Oh Christmas tree made from paper... on: January 08, 2010 10:28:58 PM
So I'm sure some of you have seen these before, styrofoam/ribbon, pin the ribbon on etc.....
But what do you do you when you're A)to lazy to go to the store B)Don't have those items on hand C)too impatient to wait until the store opens the next day to pick up supplies going back to A....and are cheap LOL!!!!

Well I tend to get idea and inspiration but used what I have on hand. So to make the cone shape I just used a medium weight bristol board type paper and taped it together in the form of a cone. Cut the bottom so it was straight. Then I went thru my box of random paper scraps and collected paper of the same color and feel (this wen to my pen pal and matches her colors well). Then I cut that all into relatively similar sized strips and just hot glued them on, starting at the bottom and working up. Then attached a big brow bow an voila!

26  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas Ornaments 2009 - Pics are gone, sorry!!! on: January 08, 2010 10:01:42 PM
Okay so this is the third year I've made ornaments for family and friends. First here are all the ornaments I made:

I lost count really but I think there were about 30 or so 3D ornaments and about 125 felt ones.
I made flat felt ornaments for my Christmas cards because I always feel bad that I can't see everyone to make them a 3D ornament and this year I had over 125 Christmas cards to send plus 2 Chanukah cards. This year was more complicated with the felt ones cuz last year I just made flat bulbs but I can't do repeats so the ones I did this year took way longer and a lot more work. Here is a shot of all the felt ones:

Here are my decorations this year, My DH and I live in a one bed one bath apt. so space is limited but I love decorating for Christmas!

Here is our balcony (OH and btw everything was done by me the only help I got was my DH hanging the snowflake lights, that's it LOL)

PICS ARE GONE SORRY!
28  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Thanksgiving / Thanksgiving Package for my Pen Pal :) on: December 06, 2009 06:10:56 PM
So here is what I sent my Pen Pal for Thanksgiving, I'm posting it a bit late but I totally forgot about it LOL!

I made everything except the candle and the napkins (I would have loved to make those also but was extrememly short on time)

I made four felt napkin rings
A Pilgram hat to hold candy
A ribbon wrapped bangle
And a felt leaf center piece that could also be used as a wreath.

Here it is Smiley

29  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Bows Bows and more Bows :) Pic Heavy on: November 04, 2009 07:48:59 PM
Okay so I LOVE bows Smiley and I've seen long necklaces with metal or plastic bows and wanted one so I decided to make my own but out of ribbon. Then I started to get a bunch of other ideas and kind of just went with it and here's what I came up with Smiley

Oh and all the bows are stiffened with a triple thick glaze so they would remain their shape and not come untied.

First the large bow necklace: (you can wear it long or shorten it)

Chain bow necklace:

Mini bow necklace:

Bow earrings, these are a bit ridiculous and I don't know if I'll ever end up wearing them but here they are anyway

Thanks for looking Smiley
30  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Halloween Package for my PenPal on: October 27, 2009 07:21:35 PM
Okay so I decided to post this in Misc. because there are a bunch of different item in this package but I wanted to post it as one post.

First is a pumpkin pin cushion, I was really proud of this one, I wanted to keep it! Guess I'll just have to make another Smiley
I "stole" some sand from my Apt. complex sand volleyball court and put some in the bottom to give it a bit of weight. It's made out of felt and since I didn't have any orange thread I colored my white thread with an orange highlighter LOL! Needless to say my hands were orange for the rest of the day Smiley

I had some pumpkin buttons so I made earrings out of them, using a really hot needle heated with a lighter I put holes in the stems for the split rings

A pumpkin pillow Smiley

Red horn hair clips, the horns are felt hot glued to hair clips

Pumpkin and Ghosts magnets I hand drew these on wooden discs and using two part epoxy attached them to really strong magnets

For her two kiddos Sucker Ghosts Smiley Just tissue paper tied over suckers and drew faces on

Felt bat stuffy his wings needed to be larger but I only had some much felt

And the card:

Finally I puts together a simple book of crafts for kids for her two girls:
