1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Tobi Mask: fastening to the head. on: January 27, 2013 05:49:44 PM
Hi guys, I made this Tobi mask last Halloween, and it was so much work to make but in the end looked so cool I thought I'd make a few more.

The mask weights about 6oz. so it needs a good way of fastening it to the head.  For myself I just glued on a piece of fabric from an old t-shirt, using my own head to measure.  I can't really use this method on an item I might send to someone across the country who I can't measure.  Plus slipping my head up through the bottom is tight and tricky and still felt a little loose.

I plan to line the inside of the mask with felt too, but here is the strap I have on my own mask, the 'prototype', if you will.  The fabric is hot-glued on and it feels like it makes a pretty good bond and it hasn't peeled.  That's a legitimate way of attaching it, right?

I thought about attaching a piece of fabric on each side that will velcro together in the back.  That would make it easier to put on, and make it more one-size-fits-all.  Would the fuzzy side be wider so that the hook side can be placed along it for different sizes?  Does velcro have a pretty good grip for something that weights 6oz.?
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / A drawer full of colorful fur. And loads of green paper. on: April 20, 2009 12:12:57 AM
I have a drawer full of fur.  It's been suggested I try to make stuffed monsters out of them.  They're mostly fur scraps from someone using them to make costumes, so I have all sorts of colors.  I suppose I could try to make at least a critter or two out of them.  And I could use even more of the fur to stuff them with.

What else could I use it for?

I also have like 500 sheets of green paper and half as many sheets of purple left over from making wedding invites.
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / 100 Things Theme Art Challenge. on: April 11, 2007 02:33:02 PM
Well, this isn't really a challenge, but that is what this list of themes here is called.  I thought I'd show it here.  I was thinking of doing it.  I saw it on someone else's blog but I don't know who originally created this list because it's been around.

I haven't decided yet whether I want to use it for a series of black and white or color illustrations, or a set of Artist Trading Cards (which I've never done but it looks like a neat and fun thing to do!), or maybe a massive set of 100x100 avatars for myself.  This is a project that I think would be really fun to do.

I've heard that most people only end up doing as many as 10.  Reaching as many as 50 would be quite a feat.  Or even 100!
