Coasters, tops for mouse pads, cut into business card size and arrange on the wall as an art installation. Speaking of business cards, plastic is in... check out http://creativebits.org/cool_business_card_designs.

Yep, I like that idea too.

I'm trying the water thing and soaking my trays right now... 3 of them, and will see what I can make out of the mush. At the VERY least, failure simply means I have some browns to add to the compost pile.

OK these are great ideas. This weekend I stuffed one with banana peels and tossed it in the fridge until I'm ready to use the peels in my pots or compost. Smiley

Actually these are really good ideas that I just couldn't think of, especially the planter idea. It also reminded me of how I need more browns in my compost, so thanks for spawning another idea. I think before I do that, I will try the paper mache idea with the containers I have on hand.

Thanks!!

I couldn't find this posted anywhere.  Huh

McDonald's Cardboard Drink Trays

I get about 1 of these trays per week and would like to do something with them. These are the gray/brown 4-cup holder trays from McDonald's (and possibly other places). The trays are nicely rigid and appear to already be of recycled materials.

I'm betting a good soaking in water will break the trays down into a nice mush, but what then? And are there any other uses for the trays before I begin any water experiments?  Cheesy

Please keep this topic going! I've got a good 20 or so of these tubes and really hate just tossing them in the garbage... and there's no recycling here.

Of note, the drink mix containers are plastic('ish) and very light. Filling them with pens and pencils is a great idea, but does make them top-heavy and very easy to topple over.

The tubes are about 6 1/2" tall with a diameter of 2 5/8". They are almost always translucent white but may have different colored (and labeled) tops.. Wyler's Light tops are blue.

I've switched to single serving drinks because there's no more room for these tubes! Smiley

Use liquid starch and paste it up. If you want to outline the pieces, use ribbon or something similar. Oh, and take pics!

You can eek all 3 into your room. Make your sofa traditional (line / cushion style) and add touches of aqua (which is retro in itself) with pillows. A bolster pillow is more traditional. Your lamps and other accessories can go more retro. Mainly, not everything should match like it was pulled straight from a furniture storeroom. Find some complimentary colors that will make the touches of aqua pop and show off your retro items. Make sense?

The background of the tapestry is wine red. Does that alter your opinion?
Yes, sure does. That tapestry really deserves it's place as a showpiece. Red walls might overpower it. A complimentary color from the tapestry would work well!
