mordhaus: Thanks! And no, I read that quote somewhere online once and it stuck with me. It seemed perfect to incorporate with the wedding!

If you don't mind doing something non-slow but fun you could use "We Are Family" or something like that and dance as a group?

I danced with my Uncle at my wedding but used the Fat Boys version of "The Twist". There's a (long) story that goes along with it...my Uncle had the regular version of "The Twist" at his wedding when I was little and we danced then. It was the 80s and I wore neon green ankle socks and my family will never let me forget it. At my wedding I wore hot pink socks when I danced with him and had the DJ give him a poster of photos of us (and me in my green socks) from his wedding and the DJ told the story so people didn't think I was a weirdo! I had my sister and niece join us on the dance floor and twist with us...it was a great surprise and a big hit! Hopefully I'll have photos & videos on our website soon!

Or, there's a country song (Brad Paisley??) that is something like "He was the father he didn't have to be."

Just a couple thoughts. Good luck!

At first I really did think we could only fit 100 total on the stand...I think I overestimated the size of the cupcakes.

We did not make the cupcakes ourselves, my aunt is a baker at HyVee so we got them there. I'm a DIY'er from way back but NO WAY was I going to try to manage THAT before the wedding! :-)

If you really want to change to cupcakes, maybe you could try to sell your cake stand? Or use it even with the cupcakes?

Haha! Thanks again!!!

I tried to count the cupcakes in the photo and it seems like the bottom platform holds close to 100. We had about 300 total and there weren't as many extras on trays to the side so I bet that sucker held at least 200 or more. I'll have to ask around and see if anyone really counted.

The sign just shows the flavors based on the color of the icing so people would know. We had vanilla w/white icing, chocolate with fudge icing, raspberry w/pink icing, and spice with orange icing.

I wasn't real sure about the cupcake idea at first either but it turned out really well - less mess, no cake cutting fee, and people really liked the idea. It was easy to grab one or two, or even a whole plate to bring back to the table. And I LOVED the stand. It was fun to make and a really unique feature.

TYVM!

Yeah, everyone thought from the first photo that it was a much smaller stand. The bottom platform is like 3' x 3'.
You can see larger (and more) photos at www.flickr/photos/themeckleys

I'm not really sure how many cupcakes we got on there...I should try to count the photo! At first I thought it would only hold like 100 but it might have been more.
