1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Learn To Knit-Along? on: November 12, 2011 02:26:55 PM
I am in. Can we have some links or directions for us left-handed folks?

I have taught myself to cast on, knit and bind off. I am making some potholders now to practice pattern reading, increases and decreases.

Have a practice piece going for practicing purling, also.

Subscribed to this thread, also.

2  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Re: anyone expierience with a vertical loom on: February 27, 2008 02:47:40 AM
Try looking at card weaving information. There used to be some really cool pictures of oh, what are they called? Where the threads are held into place with weights? Warp weighted looms or something like that? (Dang, sorry, my mind is not working due to the pain pills for the back spasms). Anyway, look at some of those sites. Card weaving or tablet weaving. Look at SCA info, too. I know some people who have made period vertical looms in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). I did my final presentation in Art History on weaving and had some info. I will dig around and see if I still have any of that. Let us know how you go.
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Noobie to Craftster from the Merry Old Land of Oz1 on: February 24, 2008 10:39:28 PM
Hello from Down Under!! I am originally from Oregon and hope to return there sometime in the next two years with my Aussie husband in tow. I will be 50 in a few months and have been crafting most of my life, much to my mother's disgust. She can't understand why you would want to make something or use re-purposed supplies when you can buy something "brand new" probably from K-mart! LOL! Horses for Courses, I guess!
Anyway, I do embroidery, beadwork, card weaving and lots of other crafts. I am trying to learn tatting and crochet and needle felting. I may be laid up soon with some back surgery, which will require me to have some bed rest, so I thought I might get involved here. I have just finished four days in bed with back spasms. Boy, that was nooo fun! I basically could not use my right hand (I am a lefty) so I got no crafting done, but spent lots of time online getting ideas, etc. I will be back to work tomorrow, I guess, for awhile. I see the surgeon on the 13th of March to see about surgery, so wish me luck.
I hope to make lots of friends here!
