aporch - That doesn't sound dumb at all. When people start putting their money where their hearts are, that's when things really start to change. I've bullied my hubby, the Anti-Environmentalist, into recycling everything possible and changing all of the light bulbs into compact fluorescents. We've already insulated to the max. I've told him that when we reroof the house in a few years we're going to put solar shingles in. He's made it pretty clear that I can't push him much further without inciting a revolt. That means the air conditioner and the gas powered lawn mower stay, I guess.

we have those lightbulbs all throughout our house too. there's 6 people in my family so we play a big part in how much goes to the dump and how much goes to recycling.... i'm anxious to see all the other paintings your going to do. very interesting

thats brilliant
lately my sister and i have been so keen on saving the universe.
it sounds really dumb but we've stopped shopping at places that use sweat shops, we love organic food, and only eat at restaurants that use 100% post consumer recycled napkins. we started a compost and payed to recycle our old plastics. your idea is wicked.

6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: faerie paintings on: April 24, 2007 08:42:51 AM
there's probably close to 6 layers of paint on the background... i bought the canvass double primed, then did plaster peaks and stuff, then double primed again, then did fingerpainting on the background. if you use really highly pigmented pain along with some cruddy craft store paint, the pigment breaks up the cruddy paint and makes a really cool effect. then i painted the faerie on afterwards
7  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: Mosaic Mirror - What color grout do you think I shoud use? Help! on: April 22, 2007 08:51:18 PM
i think you should use a contrasting color grout to bring out the color of the glass. turquoise? pale green? or yellow. i think complimenting the color of the glass would look cooler than using a color that blends in with everything else
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: lots of spare time produces lots of journals (image chunky) on: April 20, 2007 08:53:01 AM
yeah its cork and corrugated cardboard and some sturdy poster board stuff for the mini paintings. they're just journals from the dollar store, so they have lines on the paper and a place to put the date...

i've started making paper too, and i got a bunch of leather so i'm making completely home made journals with leather covers

they seem kind of simple, but judging from the technique, you could do a much more intricate picture.
aim higher....
