Very beautiful, they inspire me to do an art journal! Love the colors and your drawing style.

A couple years ago I was working on an apprenticeship at a tattoo shop. Unfortunately, I was not able to continue with it due to transportation issues. However, I was able to do a lot of drawing while I was there. One thing I found myself drawing a lot was hearts, lol!

This one I plan on getting as a tattoo someday. I love to crochet and that is what inspired this piece.

Just trying a different style...

I like this one 'cause it looks like it's popping of the page a little.

I like this one too, it's different and looks like it could be made of enamel.

I started this one but didn't finish. I'd like to turn it into a mixed media painting and give it some texture.

Thanks for looking!! Comments, and critiques are always welcome.

I can easily see that your creative, wild artistic side wants to rise above your calm, logical side...you should keep a small notebook by your bed and record words, images, etc. from dreams...art does not have to have any "meaning"...it is a feeling, a fleeting glimpse of "something" else inside...

And, you just have to do it...if you are insecure about it, don't show anybody...you only need to express yourself, and then share without thoughts about others...people who get you will get your art...or not...

I love the colors, the interesting images...my only suggestion would be to relax and enjoy it!

Thank you for your kind words and suggestions!

I started reading the Artist's Way a few months ago to help me try and work through my anxiety over making art. I love drawing and painting, but a blank page or canvas can bring on some major anxiety attacks. It's hard for me to let go of my logical brain and let the artistic brain take over. I think it has to do with control issues, and I'm not comfortable leaving my brain and letting my heart/soul do the work it wants to. I painted my first still life for the first time in 25 years that I have been exploring/making art. After that I was at a loss as to what to attempt next. I knew what colors I wanted to use but just could not come up with a subject. My husband finally suggested that I do something abstract, and I thought, well why not. It would be totally out of my comfort zone and could maybe help curb some of the hangups I have. So I slept on it, and when I was in waking dream I had a vision of what I wanted to put on canvas. The colors and shapes you see in the painting below are what I saw before be being woken by my son, lol! (kids, right?!)

I decided to look up the floating symbols and interpret them. And in a nutshell, the painting represents my desire to draw my artistic influence from a more spiritual place rather than from my meticulous/logical mind.

I had fun painting this and it was very therapeutic. I hope to start a new painting as soon as I get a moment to do it!

9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / A Primary Study Still Life on: March 25, 2016 08:39:21 AM
I have drawn in pencil, pen, and graphic marker for most of my artistic endeavors since middle school. I've even "painted" a drawing I did onto a canvas but I only used black paint to make a black and white graphic. I didn't mix any colors, and to me it was like drawing with paint, not really painting, but that's just me. So finally, I actually painted something. I was inspired to use the 3 primary colors to paint with and used some of my art supplies as still life subjects. (I thought why not, eh?)

I didn't mix any paint for this. The secondary colors were formed by the layering of wet paint over dried layers using stippling. I really had a lot of fun with it.
