4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Jane Eyre silhouette cross-stitch on: May 13, 2010 04:00:30 PM

I made this silhouette cross-stitch from a still from the 2006 BBC version of Jane Eyre (the one with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson). It's from the fireplace scene, right after Jane puts out the fire in Rochester's bedroom. I thought silhouette art would be perfect for a Victorian piece, and used Gimp to make the chart from the movie still. It's stitched in black floss on 28-ct linen, and measures 6"x6". I was inspired as part of the Bronte-Along (check out eggplantia.com for info on that fun project). It took me more than a month to complete, but that's because I'm a slowpoke and have other projects going on at the same time.

The chart is available for free on my blog here:

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Dress from two Pillow Shams on: March 26, 2010 09:13:01 AM
it's not too short at all! i can see how it might feel that way because it doesn't touch your legs and it's super lightweight, but it's very cute and modest. nice work! and i'm glad i'm not the only one who ends up ripping out as many seams as i sew.

hi,
I'm not sure if they still do -- i've moved, so I'm no longer the reference librarian. The phone number is still good, though, and the club is still listed on the website, so I'm guessing it's still going on. The contact is Lisa Reyes if you call the number -- her direct number is 254-953-5496. Hope you can join them!
