My 5-year-old son has his heart set on being Chewbacca this Halloween. (In fact, he's "in charge" of costumes for the whole family this year.) I can sew but don't want to mess with fake fur - either sewing it or him having to wear it to school all day.
I'll paint his face brown with a black nose and the ammo belt/bag will be easy but I'm not sure how to get him hairy. I have an idea to cut lengths of yarn in shades of brown (which I have started buying) to about 4 inches (or 8" folded in half) and somehow affixing them to a hooded sweatsuit. I first thought to sew them in rows all over the top and pants but I still want the "hairs" to appear random. I also thought of sewing the hooded sweatsuit out of some sort of material with holes in it (like football shirts) and "latch hooking" the yarn onto it.
Any suggestions from all you crafty folks will be greatly appreciated!
